By better sub, what are you referring to? Something with good output as well as good SQ?

I know that the MTX 8500 series 12" sub got a really good review on Car Auidio & Electronics (it was voted on of the years best). People on here really like the Polks as well. I am not familiar with the newer lines from the other companies.

I heard a db212-2 in an Eclipse spider at school and it was LOUD! He had it run of of a kicker amp at 750watts @ 2ohms and you could hear it from at least a football field away. It sounded as if it had better spl that sq, but hey, some people like spl better anyways.

You could actually have both, good SPL and SQ. This is dependant on both the driver and enclosure.

How come Kicker isn't associated in that category? In my opinoin Kicker has made the best sub for some time now. But the best sub out today is called the MTX Jackhammer

I really hope that you are joking......

If not, you have a whole lot of reading/learning to do........ The good thing is that there are alot of places where you can do this on the net.

By best, what do you mean? Are you talking about SPL, SQ, or SQL?

I have owned many Kicker subs from the Kicker Free-air 12" subs to the Kicker Solobaric C-12, D-12, & S12L7 subs. I know a little bit of what Kicker's subs can do. In fact I ran Kicker Resolution components, and Kicker ZR, ZX, and DX amplifiers for years as well. Kicker is a good company with great customer service, and good products. I would not say that they have made the best sub for some time now though.

I wont even go into that MTX sub....

Hey I know Kicker subs, maybe not their speakers or amps but definately their subs. Kicker and Rockford Fosgate but mostly Kicker Comp is all my dad has ever ran in his cars and I'm telling you what Kicker is one of the best subs I've EVER listened to. I'm not saying they are the absolute best out there, cause the db212-2 really is better in my opinoin (that's what he has now) but Kicker has always made some of the better subs in my opinoin.

Well let's see.....I've listened to a lot of Kicker, to Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Jensen, Pioneer, MTX, Hifonics Power From The Gods (****) and now Polk. Out of all those Polk's been my favorite. But all the Kicker's I've ever heard have all been really deep and tight. But I dont usually listen to rap but heavy metal too.

There are alot of other brands out there. Alot of brands that are not mainstream, but can either hang with the big names, or beat them at a much lower cost (in both sound quality and output). A perfect example would be my Soundsplinter RL-i 10" sub. That thing was a very nice sub for the money. It had the ability move a decent amount of air and do it very cleanly. You would be hard pressed to find any sub from all of those manufacturers you have listed that could beat, or even hang with it in the price range that it is going for.

    http://www.soundsplinter.com/rli_series/rli_10_inch_DIY_car_and_home_subwoofer_driver_information.html

The way a sub sounds also has alot to do with its enclosure, and how it's tuned. I know of all the subs you have listed, and am very happy with my choice.

Haha, just look at the companies that you are comparing the kickers to. Yeah, they will sound better than thoses, except for the polks. When I looked in circuit city at the subs, I saw the kicker comps in a box and under them was the polk db212-2. I turned on the kicker first and listened for a bit, then I reached for the botton to turn on the polks, and as soon as i hit it I was taken aback. I just sat on the floor and listened to the polks.

I wan't talking about the soundsplinters. I was talking about the comment on Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Jensen, Pioneer, MTX, Hifonics Power.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself good.

Thanks :). That's a great place to learn about your car, and the mods that you can do to it, as well as a great place to learn about car audio. The site has also saved me hundreds of dollars if not more over the years with different repairs I had to do. Don (Pearl96Max) is a great guy for car audio advice, and has great prices on audio gear.
