need advice on dvd recorder

Hello,
I am just getting more into home theater. I recently purchased an 56 inch JVC rear projection HDTV (great buy on return from Sears, $900), and then a HK 335 refurb direct from Ebay. I am purchasing used ht speaker set up from fellow foum member (rt20p, fx1000 and cs1000p). I am getting the HD receiver from Direct TV on Wednesday. Now, sorry for the prelude, I looking to buy a DVD recorder and VHS recorder. Mostly concerned about DVD recorder. I'm not really an audiophile, but I want the thing to work well. I have put out a fair amount lately, so cost is a factor. Please provide any suggestions.
