anybody seen it?

I think it's great. Prob. the best performance of Burt Reynolds career.
Some of the best camera work and "long shots" (no pun intended) i've ever seen in a film.
Also the directors commentary is about the best i've ever heard.

    Great movie, a classic. The director also took the entire cast of Boogie Nights (minus Burt and Mark Wahlberg) and put them in the movie Magnolia, which is also very good but a different type of film. It is interesting to see them all interact again in different roles.

    This was also a great intro to one of today's great actors, Philip Seymor Hoffman. He played the chubby cameraman who was in love with Dirk. Hoffman is up for an award for Capote. His best performance to date was in Magnolia.

    I didn't much care for it. It was passable enough to sit all the way through it, but I wouldn't do it again.

    I saw it. I thought it was just okay. Not sure why it got all the praise and acclaim that it did. I wouldn't mind watching it again. I think a lot of it was over my head at the time. Its worth the revisit just for rollergirl

    Well, I can only listen to this on my HT seeing it's upgraded with the TK-421. We do that inhouse. But go ahead and move with it if you have to... helps me!

    This is the first DVD I ever purchased. Great Great movie!

    The part near the end with the drug deal gone bad and the little chinese guy throwing firecrackers with Sister Christian blaring away is priceless! Then it cuts to Jesse's Girl....to me, a damn near perfectly filmed sequence.

    It gave a big boost to alot of actors. Just go through the list and see the names. Heck of a list! Burt Reynolds really shined in this one.

    Heather Graham...total YUMMY!

    You know I had a weird experience with this movie. I originally saw it in theaters when I was younger and I dont know if I was in a bad mood or had other things to do but, we were two hours and 15 min into the movie and saw no end in sight. It wasnt bad neccesarily, it just didnt have a POINT. But it is a unique plot as it isnt a point A to point B with one major conflict. So I got up and left with my gf, and it was the ONLY movie I ever walked out on.

    But then I went back and watched it when it came back on video, (my gf heard we missed the "big" end scene and had a twisted curiosity to see it (even though I showed her what it would be like lol *joke drum rimshot*) and it grew on me. No pun intended. By the third time I watched it I loved it and it is now one of my favorite movies. Only movie where my opinion has changed so much over time. I think I saw it around the time before and after I took a couple film classes at school and gained a new appreciation for movies as an art. Or maybe I just liked all the ****, who knows.

    One of the best movies ever. Builds lots of intensity when things start going bad, each time they show a different character after the turning point, you're just waiting for what awful thing will happen next.

    Paul Thomas Anderson is a brilliant director(and not to be confused with hack Paul W.S. Anderson who's infamous for such classics as Alien vs Predator, Resident Evil, and Mortal Kombat). He's only 36 and already has 2 masterpieces under his belt. 3 if you count Punch Drunk Love. Boogie Nights isn't his first movie about Dirk Diggler, believe it or not. The Dirk Diggler Story was his first film. He was 17 when he made it and it features many of the same characters from Boogie Nights.

    i felt bad for the husband whose wife was being porked in public and he was all butt-hurt and the director dude or whomever was talking to him about the films and didn't care what the husband was feeling in the moment. priceless!

    the Macy suicide scene was one of the examples I was talking about regarding long shots/no cuts during the scene. It's actually about a 3-5min. scene with a steady cam. Very impressive film making, and a rare thing these days.

    The oscars that year came down to As Good As It Gets, Boogie Nights and Titanic.
    The 1st two were robbed imo of Best Pic/Director honors.

    and yeah what John D said about the ending IS Priceless. That crazy freebaser singing along to Motorin' and Jesse girls almost made me want to go out and buy the soundtrack.

    I just rented this from NetFlix and watched it last night. It was well shot and all that, but I feel the same as HolyDoc. It wasn't all that impressive. I'll say that they definitely did a good job of showing the chew you up and spit you out nature of doing things like that as a career. Phillip Seymour Hoffman managed to make me laugh a lot, but that was about it. 3 out of 5 with zero re-watch factor.
