Nice resurrection of an old thread.

I have a set of Oak ALIII's and Black ALS Plats.

Which ones sound best to you and why? Are your Plats the ones with the square or white dimpled woofers or are they newer ones with the paper cone/foam surround type?

Old thread that needs resurrecting! I have two sets of Amazings (one set of piano black and one Oak), which I bought directly from the ORIGINAL owner, and I really mean the real original original very first owner of all Carver Amazings in the world: Bob Caver himself! Since he owned the company all these speakers belonged to him before they got sold to the "original" owners =)

Anyway, I bought two sets from his personal collection of speakers, loaded them in a U-Haul and drove from Seattle, WA to San Antonio, TX (About 2400 miles one way). I need to restore them with new foam which nobody seems to make and I'm still wary of the Dynavox replacement woofers since I don't know if they are really the exact replacement-these speakers deserve to be brought back to exact new factory condition!

I think that the one guy that had a stock of the original woofers passed away a few years ago.
Have you visited the Carver forum (or forums) ?

The Dynavox replacement woofers are exactly the same. Why don't you buy one and find out for yourself.

Hi F1Nut, I've read that the dynavox driver wasn't the same so I've been hesitant to buy them. Today I took all the physical measurements and I'll contact dynavox tomorrow. I'll order 4 and do some good A/B tests between one speaker that has good original drivers and the other one with the new dynavox drivers. If they sound the same to my ears, then I'll order the other 4. Thanks for your input!

Speedskater, Thanks for replying, I'm already a member of the Carver forum. Thanks!

Just post when you got them. I know you're all proud of them, and the wonderful stuff you have them being driven with, and the preamps that feed the amps, and the cd players that feed the preamps, but just state when you got them. The only person to state when they got them was DAGLJAM6. It's not that hard.

South Amboy. I'll have to relate a very recent story........later.

If you don't own a pair of these, please feel free to NOT add to this thread in any way, shape, or form.[/ QUOTE]

    Can't resist ............

The ones I purchased were exactly the same, so I'm not sure why someone else would say they were not.

Be sure to let the new woofers break in before comparing them.

I asked this some time ago and got nothing from anyone. I said what's w/ it's name and do they deserve it.Carver Amazings. I did see a pair in C/L months ago and were listed continually .They do look like a pain in the **** to set up and clearly you need a large /high ceiling room. Subjectivety aside do they rate that name Amazings.

Very true. But when you have high quality, well recorded media, they are something else completely...

    Hello everyone,

new here and also a new silver amazing -oak version owner.
just a question about the silvers that i recently got.

i was able to download the users manual for the silvers and
it mentioned there that there is a balance control on the speakers
with controls for the low, mid and high frequencies.

the pair i got didnt have any of these controls, only the binding posts
    for the speakers.

was there different versions of the silver amazings, one with the controls and one without?

thanks for any info and great site by the way.

    cheers.

IIRC, only the last version (Mk IV) of the Plats came with that feature.

I bought mine after some guy labeled GG kept talking about them. Got them, auditioned them at work in several rooms, took apart to upgrade the xovers and haven't spent any time on them since. Just ran out of time. Still awaiting upgrades.
