For those of you that think The Stones are washed up, nothing could be further from the truth!

Jesse, you can't tell me that what you saw on TV from their performance would inspire you to go and see them in concert so you could throw a few Franklin's at that, could you?

IMO...all commercials suck...I turned them all down, and the Stones did pretty darn well considering the venue.

    Brett,

The last time they toured people said they were washed up. Well, I saw them play then and I was blown away at how good they sounded, at how long they played (4hrs. almost unstop) and how fit all of them actually are. They actually sounded better than the previous couple of times I saw them. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen and I've seen hundreds upon hundreds. This time around I was unable to see them locally and didn't feel like traveling. However, a good friend that went with me the last time was able to attend the Baltimore show this time. His comment, "Fu*king great, just as good as the last time we saw them." As I've known him most of my life and that he plays guitar and therefore knows good music when he hears it, I have no problem taking his word for it.

As for the half time show....name one show that truely represented the performing act. To form an opinion based on a half time show is just silly.

Rather than just sing a couple of 20 year old songs, I'd prefer to see a 'show' instead of just twitching around in circles......

They're not my style of music (can't please everyone I know), but it just seemed to be lacking for what a halftime thing should be/has been.

In terms of pianists.......I think Elton John or Billy Joel would be great performers at halftime......

But what REALLY should have happened was to have brought a bunch of Motown greats in and had them do some songs together. Nothing against Stones, but I think it would have been nice to have some local culture in the mix....

nothing wrong with the Rolling Stones.. there's a reason they are the oldest living band around.. they've been playing now for what 40 yrs? That says something right there. Few bands make it 5 yrs tops. Longevity means they still have and always will have a following.

After the lame Superbowl XL i was watching Bono on 60 Minutes.. he pondered the question. what would the Beatles have accomplished in their lives had they still been around today?

If given the chance to see the Stones.. i'd do it.. but i would have trouble paying $250 per ticket.

No matter who the halftime show is.. it's never going to please everyone.

HaHAHAHA, I forgot about that. Seriously, how that one made it not only to the air, but DURING THE SUPER BOWL, when an ad costs 2.5million or more, you'd think someone would have ... said something.

Brown and bubbly was a terrible idea. The Diddy/Pepsi ad from last year was funny. I'll give them that, but thats where it should have ended. Brown and bubbly makes me think of what I do on the toilet in the morning. Not something I want to put in my mouth and swallow.

I would have tuned in to see that!

But out of all the Motown artists, (at least the good ones) How many are still alive, have voices & don't hate each other? & they might have needed a bigger stage!

The reason the NFL is going with the older performers is thanks to Janet Jackson being stupid & pulling off half her costume!

They don't have to worry about that happening with these guys, cause they don't want anyone seeing there sagging body parts to begin with.

And with the 5 sec delay they can bleep out offensive words. That's what happened during a couple of the songs last night, from what I heard on the news this morning.

Yep, in the first song, "START ME UP", they cut part of the line "you can make a dead man ****".

Forget the "names"....just get the Funk Brothers, many of whom are still alive. They are the ones that made most of the "Motown Sounds" anyway. If you're looking for a great Motown concert/documentary DVD, find "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". I've seen it for less than $10. These guys would put the Stones to shame (and they are older).

    yep...
NEW YORK (AFP) - Age, it seems, has mellowed the Rolling Stones, who agreed to have their half-time performance at Sunday's Super Bowl censored twice for lyrics deemed too sexually explicit for family viewing.

The National Football League (NFL) said Monday that the British rock and roll legends had been consulted about the cuts prior to their appearance at the championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers.

In an apparent compromise, Mick Jagger actually sang the offending lyrics, but the NFL, which produced the show, switched off his mike so that they went unheard in the stadium and on the broadcast by the ABC television network.

"As planned and agreed upon with the Stones, we turned down Mick's mike for two specific seconds," said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy.

The cuts included lyrics from the songs "Start Me Up" and "Rough Justice."

"The Stones were fine with it. They didn't have an issue. Mick knew that's what our plan was," McCarthy said.

Producers have maintained tight controls on the content of the Super Bowl's half-time show ever since Janet Jackson's right breast was exposed two years ago in what was famously blamed on a "wardrobe malfunction."

The incident, which was broadcast to millions of TV viewers worldwide, led to the CBS network -- the broadcaster for that year -- being fined 550,000 dollars.

This year, ABC showed the half-time event on a five-second delay, the first time such a precaution against profanity or Jackson-like exposures had been taken in Super Bowl history.

ABC spokesman Mark Mandel said the network had played no part in censoring the Stones.

"ABC had nothing to do with it," Mandel said. "There was nothing that was heard in the stadium that required ABC to do anything."

The Stones sang three songs on Sunday, wrapping up with the anthemic "Satisfaction" which went untouched by the censors.

"Here's one we could have done at Super Bowl I," Jagger, 62, said as he introduced the golden oldie.

"Everything comes to those who wait," he added -- again without interference.
