I just got a Que 40X12X40 CD burner for my laptop. What is the difference between RW disc's marked 16X or 32X or 40X? Are they better grade and less chance of a miswrite or what? I tried a 40X and a 32X disc so far and both wrote at 40X. Also, I understand some are marked "high speed" and some not. What makes them "high speed"? By the way, USB 2.0 is awesome!

They're just able to handle the higher burn speeds. I found this out because I accidentally tried to burn at 16x on a 8x CDR I had, and the music ended up sounding like gibberish, skipping all over the place. I don't think you'll get 'extra' protection by buying a higher speed-capable disc. Usually you can gain better protection by slowing the speed a little, turning off virus protection, defragmenting your hard drives, etc., especially if you get buffer underrun errors. Also, and your mileage may vary, but I've had better luck with TDK or Maxell discs. I've never heard of 'high-speed' before, but 40x is pretty damn high speed, nice burner! :D
