I am thinking of replacing my mm124 with an ED 12" and was looking for some opinions on ED. It will be powered w/ a 400x1 amp

search for 'dehlima' in the hall of shame, and retract your question as soon as possible... they may be good, or not, i'll reserve judgement, but this particular forum is a bad place to ask that question...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

Well I have been runnin ED gear subs amp compoenents for a while now and have done a few cars with them and love em, the only reason I did polk this time is because I got a crazy hookup on it, otherwise Im all ED

i dont check this side of the forum much, but eD is absolute crap. From their 100s of blown subs in their storeroom to their **** **** liquid deadener that doesnt work and looks like ****, eD, and their owner, who is also an idiot, can kiss my ****

I believe their older flat piston subs were pretty well regarded, but their newer ones look like any other budget sub out there.

I remember the pictures of all the blown ED's. (wow, that sounded bad)

well thanks for the input, it seems I am hearing more negitive than positive so I guess I got my anwser. thanks

to get a truly objective answer, you need to search elsewhere - as far as eD goes, this is NOT the place to find such an answer... we'll be happy to help with anything else, though...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

You can bash ED all you want but there amps are way more powerful then the polks for a hell of alot less, and the MOMO 12s I jsut bought I'm thinking of selling for some EDs again, I guess I should have kept the EDs in the first place much nicer SQ. Even with the phat polk discount I get the ED is a better value.
-
Alot of the parts and design in the newer ED subs are shared with Image Dynamics subs, for what it's worth.
I'm really surprised to see so much hate for ED being thrown around here. -
their amps are dirty as hell. Their owners a fckin dick that screws over all of his "friends"
The company is a joke.
Besides, anyone that uses "phat" describing car audio...ill just leave it at that

Feel free to post your in-car frequency sweep anytime. -
In car RTA's are basically worthless Ive discovered. MECA has an event in SQ , the RTA Freq Out, where you try to get the flattest and most consistant RTA reading. After the event when everybody has theirs faily flat they immediately return their EQ's back to normal cause they sound like crap now.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

no, it's actually pretty straightforward (ignore the tags) ... for you to hear a constant volume on a 20Hz - 20kHz sweep, the actual SPL must follow one of those lines... e.g. if you hear 90 dB at 1 kHz, the system needs to make only 80 db at 3500 Hz, but 100 dB at 60 Hz, in order for it to all sound balanced...
the different curves represent the fact that your ears' relative sensitivity also depends upon sheer volume... i.e. the low curves, for soft volume, are steeper at the ends, representing the fact that you need (say) +20 dB over nominal for it to sound balanced... on the other hand, if you're listening to it insanely loud, you only need (say) +5 dB over nominal to make it all sound balanced...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

Nice graph there Neo . The outside of your ear also plays a part in the sensitivity around 3-4KHz . I guess the guys with bigger ears are more sensitive .
On the RTA thing, it has been common knowledge for a while that getting a flat RTA setting does not equal great sound. I would read about this stuff in the 90's where the guys would have those RTA settings and other settings as well for SQ. I gues it's nice to see if your system can get a flat response, but even nicer for it to sound good.Alpine: CDA-7949
