My Cinenova Popped!!!!

Last night I heard a loud 'POP ' from my right channel and amp. there was even a flash (I think). I dove to the Cinenova to turn it off and tested the system. The FR sounded like it was being electrocuted with music. CRAP! I switched the speaker to another channel on the amp and it was ok...WHEW!

But any speaker that I put on that channel I felt like I had to shave its head first and read it its last rights- Same electrical buzzing from that channel. :(:(:(

All the other channels are fine.

Now I have a warranty and all I have to do is detach that channel and send it in and just live with 6.1 for a while but even that sounds like a pain. Is that channel in R.I.P.ville or can I save it? The faulty fuse indicator lights are not on

Previously I noticed that channel had been a little tricky. Sometimes I wouldn't get sound from it until I jiggled the speaker cable just so....

if it was "tricky" before, and now it has popped, I would send it in, next time it might take out a speaker or something worse.

Bummer. But it's neat that you can take out just one channel. I had no idea you could do that. Is that a common thing with most amplifiers?

This is what you need to do:

    Pull out the bad board.
    Pull out a good board.
Put the good board where the bad board was.
Put the bad board where the good one was.

did the problem move with the board?
If so - pull out the board and set it aside.

Crank up a couple movies or music.
Any issues with the good board you put in the bad boards slot?

If not - send in the bad board.
If so - send in the whole amp.

    good luck.

    Michael

BTW - this is with the assumption that all your boards are the same and interchangeable (they are in my Cinepro - 2 channels per board). Call Cinenova and ask if you are not sure on this.

Sorry to hear that. Probably blew a few caps. This happens sometimes. I bought 4 parasounds stereo amp all of them 2nd hand circa 1997-ish. Some even had rat pea marks on them. They were in bad storage for years.

I think I blew 3 out of 4 of these guys in the course of a month but all were fixed in due time. Now they sound great. Though one still has a relay issue and needs a few minutes warm up time to work the right channel :)

Better the bugs get quashed sooner rather than later.

    Best regards :D

I talked to customer service at Earthquake today. I must say they were very helpful and friendly. They talked me through removing the channel (actually pretty easy) and now it's off to California. I am relieved because I was really stressing not knowing how their customer service would be.

Glad to hear their customer service is good. Hopefully they'll get you a new channel/fix the channel and get it back out to you soon!

It sure is neat that you can use the rest of the channels while that one is being repaired.
