I just sold my center on the bay...

Total came out to 155 dollars. Thats 130 + 25 dollar shipping.

So Ebay fees were like 6 some bucks... - no big deal, I expected it...

But the Paypal fee of FIVE DOLLARS? 11.65 total for fees on a 155 dollar item??? Are you kidding me...

I feel robbed...

This is absolute BS.

I will never accept paypal again, I can not support greedy old men in suits trying to steal peoples money.

The price of doing business... you should see how much it costs to actually have a credit card machine in a store.

    Trey,
I look at it as just the cost of doing business. If you are worried about the $5 Paypal fee then you could have asked for a personal check / money order.

Paypal is very convenient especially for higher priced items. Usually I do the seller a favor and do a direct transfer from my checking account. Last time I did this a few weeks ago there is no transaction fee this way.

$5 to get money into your account within a few minutes....not too bad bud. It is all about how long you want to wait. It probably takes $2 in gas just to get to the bank and deposit your money order / check.

just build the cost of doing business into the cost of the product, like many of my vendors do, and everything is paid for...and you still get what you want for said product...

If you let the money sit in the account , then use it in a transaction for a paypal deal, I think it costs nada...

Well actually, shipping cost like 15 bucks ---

I charged 10 dollars more, I guess I will have to start bumping it up to 15-20 dollars more and not mention why.

You oughtta hook 'em up to your audio system. Having a nuclear power source right there should be a lot cleaner than plugging your system into the wall. And you'd never have to wait 'til night to listen, either!

    Flat rate shipping.......

When you're selling things on Ebay, you're obviously doing it to make money, so price how much it would cost to send your item all the way to the furthest place in the country, and that's what you should charge for shipping. If they happen to be closer, they're still paying that price. And don't call it "shipping".....specify it as S&H so they know that you're price is shipping, packaging, gas, etc to get that item to them.

I'm surprised that your Ebay fees were only $6 with listing, and final value fees, unless you set no reserve, started it at a penny, etc.....

I set the starting bid at 100 dollars, 130 dollar buy it now.

It was 2 something insertion fee, 25 cents for BIN fee - then 4 something for final value fee...

Paypal was like 4.5 final value fee or someting.

    its a load of BS.

If you sell on Ebay and you don't accept PayPal, you can expect your final sale price to be much more than 3% lower. You just have to accept and always set your BIN price a little higher to absorb those fees.

No Flame Noah but this is the exact thought that Paypal and others want the public to accept. That it is normal to pay a fee on a transaction, eventually any transaction.

Last time I checked it cost a business a 6% upcharge to accept credit cards, this may have changed and likely they have found some new "fee's". But even with a CC 6% of 155 is 9.30.

Sid is right, its way to much to get charged 7.5 of his total sale. Charging extra for ship is one way to protect the seller, but not the buyer, afterall, Paypal/Ebay really does not give a crap who pays as long as someone does.

    They suck.

As a rule, I normally don't purchase from buyers who do not accept PayPal. Likewise, when I sell stuff on ebay, audiogon or this forum, I always insist on payment through PayPal. Why? Well, have ya ever heard the phrase, "time is money?"

I am willing to pay the 3% so I can get my money immediately. The faster I get paid, the quicker I can re-invest the money or spend it elsewhere. I'm not interested in waiting a week for a buyer to send a money order, and I don't want to take the time to go to the bank and deposit it.

I also typically don't purchase from a buyer who has inflated their shipping charges, nor do I buy from a buyer who's ad says, "add 3% for PayPal fees."

You gotta understand -- ebay, audiogon, etc. are wonderful marketplaces. If they didn't exist, we'd have a much harder time unloading some of our stuff. So from that perspective, three percent is a bargain.

The key to selling stuff is a quick turnover to generate cash flow, not maximizing profit on every transaction (which usually takes more time).

    Paypal is hardly "instant".

Why do they push so hard to get your bank acct #?
Why do they limit the amount of your cash you can withdraw even though its yours?
Why do they constantly ask you to get a premier account?

    The questions are rhetorical.

    They Suck.

So now we should use Paypal because gas costs too much? If a couple of the big money boys ever read that it would put a big smile across their face.

I will use them if no other choice will work, but I am all for sending a check for .39.

Less than a day anywhere in teh country. Hell of a lot more instant than a check, especially from far away.

Why do they constantly ask you to get a premier account?
If you use your bank acct you don't pay as many fees as with a credit card. It's more costly for THEM to deal with credit card companies, so of course they woudl prefer a direct connection with a bank account.

I've never had htem limit the amount I can withdraw.

And above all they're a business, they make more money if you get a premier account. Do you expect them to be altruistic, and just exist to help people, not making any money?

That's the way it should be - that's the way it works. If you don't like em, you dont' have to use them. If enough people hated their practices, they would change their policies or cease to be. Hell, start your own money transfer business. Yay free market economy!
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Money orders cost about $5 here, so a couple bucks for an instant transaction with at least some safety features to go along with it isn't too bad... Then again I'm coming from a buyers position and have never had to sell anything.

It sucks but everything costs money now. They take risks by participating in the money handling process just as a bank does when they give out a loan, so they wouldn't take that risk at no extra cost.
