Monitor Surround Setup - can I change the front 2 speakers?

I have a Monitor series surround setup (Monitor 60's, Monitor 30', CS1, PSW10).

Based on the rave reviews from this forum, it seems that the RTi series is the way to go for music (80% of what I use the speakers for).

So my question is - can I just change the front 2 speakers, replace the Monitor 60's with the RTi8's or RTi10's and leave the rest of the setup for surround sound use or do I need to replace the Monitor 30's with matched speakers such as the RTi6's and CSi5 etc.?

Sure you can mix and match, it's not optimal for multi channel, but not a hard fast rule either.

Upgrade because YOU like the RTi's better, not based on what the forum voices in your head tell you. I've got no issues at all with the Monitor series for music. There's something in Heredity - they didn't just slap the 'Monitor' name on them for no reason.

    Cheers,
    Russ

As Russ said, let your own ears guide your decisions. Bring a pair of the RTis home for a demo if you can and return them if you don't like them. Its all about getting your own ears on the speakers.

Should you decide to go for the RTis, it would be best to get your front three to match in timbre as closely as possible. The surrounds is much more optional and do it only if you want to. I don't find different timbre in the surrounds to be much of an issue.

That's the sad part ... I listened to both and the RTi were setup rather poorly at Tweeters and they sounded worse than my Bose speakers!!! (I hate Bose)

The guy at another store had the Monitor speakers setup really nicely and they sounded great. They sounded a lot nicer than the JBL's and the Yamaha's. I couldn't even audition Klipsch for the same reason - the setup at Best Buy for the Klipsch's were really poor and the way they sounded - no one would buy them. So out of the 3 I auditioned, the Monitor 50's and 60's sounded the best by far. Infact there wasn't a big difference between the 50's and the 60's

Thats why I suggest bring them home if you can. Even if they were setup great, they would/could still sound very different in your house, in your room, on your gear. I am sure Tweeter has a return policy conducive to a demo.

Yeah. JBL E's is inferior to Polk's Monitor. I agreed with Crazy.

Try yourself, compare even E-60 (JBL) with Monitor 50/60 and you can't believe the difference (much more clean Polk).

Yamaha don't enter in this competition (speakers). They made excellents RECEIVERS. Ha !!!
My current new system (step by step :D)

    A/V Receiver: YAMAHA RX-V657
    DVD Player: YAMAHA DVD-S657
    Main Towers: polkaudio® Monitor 50
    Wiring: NeoTecH KS1007 OFC High Definition Speaker Cable ( 2 x 2.64 mm² )

Great idea - Tweeters, here I come! Should I tell them straight out that this is just so that I can do an A/B comparision and will keep whichever sounds better?
