1) To convince my Mom about this truck...

2) To convince my Mom to buy this Ford F150...

Big 305 (I believe), dual gas tanks (gas ****...lol) - excellent paint, truck bed liner, new tires... MINT interrior - I kid not. The only thing we found was something with the electronic lock on the main door...

Dude... cant wait, plan to get it TONIGHT!

    305=GM

    302=FMC

    Although a 302 is a V-8 it is rather small for the domestics

    I knew it was something like that...

    Its a larger engine that my grandpaw wanted me to have...lets just leave it at that! :)

    Thanks for the luck!

    I never said it wouldnt...

    I said it was a gas **** due to it having two effing tanks... lol - it has two gas lids to fill up man... jeez! I should be able to go a while without filling up though as much as I plan to drive...

    We are going Saturday... We plan to do a lil more search on it first, find the original owners, etc...

    No, I crap on Dodge, I dont like Dodge - no offense to Dodge owners. And I havnt seen very many domestics go past 200,000 miles. They still hog gas.

    Toyota on the other hand has trucks in the 250+ thousand mile range, and EXCELLENT gas mileage.

    Im not paying for the Truck, just the insurance and gas - thats the deal.

    The nice part of having dual tanks is being able to pull exactly into the middle of a gas station pump isle, and fill from two pumps at the same time, and watch people stare (and honk!) in disbelief :D

    If you fill with both pumps, we want a photo! Just hope that there are no tree huggers around or you'll have an effn blockade at the exit! The 302 has lots of aftermarket support, good choice. It is a small block but at 5.0 liters it's no slouch.

    Are you paying for insurance direct to an insurance company or through a broker?

    5 litres is considered small?!?!

    So does it have an older carbed 302 or a fuel injected 5.0?? Im confused.

    Yeah, a 5.0 is small. Considering the originally considered Chevy had a 350, and I want a 80's 4-door dually Chevy with a 454. :D

    If you want a truck to go past 300,000mi dodge is the only place to look....

    Can you say Cummins?

    How about a one ton dually with 1350+ ft/lbs of torque and 20mpg???

    5 litres is considered a small V8 ... thats why i got made when dodge made the 4.7L v8.

    anyway...

    Chrysler, for many years, had the largest small blocks... 318 and 360 were larger than the 302 / 351 fords and 305 / 350 chevys.

    While the average lifespan of a 305 / 350 may be less than 100k... most 318's mopar motors will get you well past 200 k before a rebuild (if properly maintained... it's key). the 360 is more of a 150 k motor mainly due to the fact that its been mainly used for performance applications post late 80's.

    the "small 8's" usually are the same block as the larger 8 --- for chevy and dodge at least -- ford's a different story... anyway - the small 8 has historically been the "enough power to get by but with better gas mileage than the larger v8".

    typically out of a small 8 you should get between 150 and 200 horse -- 175 to 225 torque. plenty good enough to hurl you down the road at fun speeds. nothin wild, but dude, plenty good.

    PS ----

    I'm sick of people toting huge horsepower numbers and throwing them around as if every joe blow is supposed to be slingin 500 horses and and enough torque to pull a stump.

    that's ****... while, yes, there exist monster motors out there, but how many of us actually own them? and if some of us do own them, how many of us got them by inheriting them as hand me downs or built them up ourselves and don't even use them on a daily basis.

    fact is --- there aren't many people who are going to go out and pick up a crate 426 hemi or 440 wedge or 502 chevy or 351 windsor and just dump it in whatever we're driving on a daily basis... 99.9% of us who (if we won the lotto) and grabbed one of those would put it in the garage and wipe it down with a diaper and jack off lookin at it.

    the 302 is going to be great for Sid... I've got a 318 in my old dodge truck, and its plenty powerful for me... its only doing somewhere around 200 - 250 modified a little, i haven't dyno'ed it ... but its somewhere in there... and its PLENTY to throw that 4,500 pound truck down the road. I used to have the same truck with a 3.9L 6 banger of hte same design... 130 some odd horse at best... that was still enough.

    the old man's 99 has a 318 magnum SMPI --- that does just something like 210 ... its PLENTY.

    and if you want more - throw a big exhaust and nice 14" dish intake and headers on it -- that'll cost ya like 400 bucks (only 200 if u do just the exhaust and cleaner) and u'll get maybe 30 (or 15) horses outa it (guessing but its a good guess).

    and the two tanks -- chances are they're for over the road driving --- not because its a guzzler but because you can go 800 miles instead of 400 before refueling.
