I have 3 options on my yamaha for stereo, 7ch stereo, 2ch stereo, and direct stereo. I understand the first two, could someone break down (direct stereo) like a shotgun.

Direct stereo bypasses your bass, treble, and balance settings for a "direct" transfer of sound from your source.

As clean and straight as you can get without going directly from the source directly to the amp. As polk65 says plus sometimes they eliminate some of the switching circuits the signal goes through as well.

My system has even an additional setting called pure audio. It is basically the same as Direct Audio but switches off all the LED and non-used electrical systems in the receiver so not to introduce any distortion into the sound.

I may be a little rusty so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe on that series of Yamahas, when running in "2ch stereo" it would still leave your bass management settings in effect. So if you mains were set to small your sub would still handle the low frequencies. However when in "Direct Stereo" mode, in addition to bypassing tone and balance controls, it would also override your bass management and just run the two front speakers full range without the sub.

On the newer models such as my RX-V2500 they now offer a Pure Direct mode much like the Denon, and Onkyo. This does basically the same thing as Direct Stereo but also turns off all video switching circuits, front display, and any unnecessary processing in the attempt to minimize interference.

I think I remembered that properly. Been a while since I messed with the older models.

    Happy Listening!

Yes. The "pure direct" mode make the sound clean as possible.

My question is .... You can adjust bass treeble level in pure direct mode (Yammie)

    Thanks !!!!
