No politics I promise. No matter what I think of the slimy scumba...I mean our great leader.
My point is, why do they have to show it on every channel? What makes one watch it on ch 7 vs, say ch 10 or 6? Why don't they bid on it like the Super Bowl? Why do we have to miss Wheel and Jeopardy fer cryin out loud?

Hmmmm...just throwing out that with even my basic cable package that there was probably, oh, 80-odd other channels with programming other than the SOTU speech.

The SOTU is a time honored tradition in this country, much like the fire-side chats. I don't mind it being on every other channel considering there's only 1 to two of them per year- and regardless of where you stand politically it gives you more involved with the system. I'd rather debate someone that doesn't agree with me politically then try and talk to someone who just doesn't give a damn about what's going on in this country.

    Good night all. :)

I've been a fan of House since it's been on. What still kills me is that House is actually a british actor and hearing him talk out of his throaty dialect on the show looks so bizarre.

    Yeah dude...

I heard House on an interview... and I had to double take - he has a DEEP DEEP british accent..was very odd...

    But the show is awesome...

"Hello sick people, Im Doctor Gregory House."
"People that dont know me.... think Im a criple. The people who do... think I'm an ****. Let me show you."
-Is there something you're not telling me?-
"Yes, I'm ****..*pause*... that would explain alot though wouldnt it... the having the best guy friend that I always eat dinner with..."

    hahha..great show.

I usually watch the SOTU and about half of the time it's fun for S&G. The rest of the time I'm cursing out loud and reaching for a cold one.

The camera operators have a knack of panning across the audience at the right moment when a senator is yawning. :p
I find it interesting also to see who is not there. Likewise, it's a hoot when the minority party response comes across as written weeks ago (which IMO seems true most of the time).

As far as network coverage goes, with all of the channels we "pay" for on cable/satellite, it sucks that there are no alternative channels to watch when our weekly shows are pre-empted. I'm sure that there are many upset with Monday night football when Jeopardy and WOF are not on.

Back in 1989/1990 I volunteered as a camera operator for the local cable company. When covering Town Meeting, we always made sure to catch the bad fashion choices, snoozing aldermen, empty reserved chairs for town officials, etc. :)

I was at a friends and he was channel flipping and I saw the last minute or so.

I particularily enjoyed the "WHEW I MADE IT" smile that he had at the end......

There is just way to much clapping going on. I couldn't watch anymore. But it was in HD over here (They couldn't put the Jets on in HD [not that they were worth watching this year], but they managed to do this).

Also, I don't want to spoil the next House, but in this one someone is really sick, and he has a diagnosis, but no one agrees with him. But in the end, he was right after all.

If they did away with the applause, good old "Newkyuhler" would probably give a 10 minute run-on sentence instead of a speech. Great entertainment either way.

Too bad a light doesn't come on the podium every time any President proposes a program that indicates something good gets cut in return.

I find it makes an awesome drinking game... you just gotta be careful with the rules- drink everytime he says "Terra", "Terra-ist", "9/11" or squints at the camera and someone will go into a coma. Whew- I'm surprised we survived the debates last election year.

The only good thing about the state of the union speach is that on my new polks, G dubs forced laughs, ahems and highpitched replies to touchy questions sounded really damn good.

That kills me too everytime I hear it but actually Im glad he keeps saying it like that. He's obviously heard all the jokes about it but he's like "f**k you, this is the way I talk. I eat barbeque, wear cowboy hats and would rather be on a ranch in the middle of Texas than in the Hamptons eating caviar and I aint changin' to please a bunch of bedwetters!"
    angry-smiley-047.gif

In this day of everybody worried about what other people think of them and trying to please everybody, to me its refreshing to see someone in the public eye with that kinda attitude.
