May be the wrong forum for this topic, but there are a lot of HT-smart people on here and thought somebody might be able to help me out.......Does anyone have (or did have) 51" Hitachi CRT Projection TV? I have a 51swx20B and am having problems with it. The repair guy that HItachi recommended didn't know what was wrong (so I wouldnt' pay him).

All of a sudden the contrast is way off and the color is way too hot. I have Sound and Vision's calibration DVD and I can't the the contrast dialed in even set at 100 and with brightness way up. Any thoughts or similar experiences?:confused:

I just sold my Hitachi 51UWX20B; not sure what the difference is with yours. I never had any problem with it, but I was never able to get the contrast right with the Sound & Vision DVD patterns; It just never got close. This might be a stupid question considering that you had a technician looking to it...but have you tried resetting the 4 or 5 modes? (Sports, movies, etc).

The tech was a moron. He didn't know how to use a test pattern and thought the picture was fine (it really isn't..I'm not just being rediculous) he basically only knew how to fix a convergence problem or a couple other MAJOR issues.

I tried resetting the picture modes and the contrast got worse. I put in a few different DVD's to see if I could adjust the picture to them also but the contrast is just terrible and everything is way too red. If I turn the color down the picture is washed out because I have to have the brightness too high because of the contrast......ug......Oh yea...I'm supposed to have a superbowl party so I need to know how to fix this by Sunday. :o

Oh..now that you mention it...it has been a while since I calibrated the screen with the test patterns and remember that I couldn't get the contrast set right, but this problem is bigger and happened all of a sudden. I was pretty happy with the picture last week.

Im not to sure, but maybe one of your crt's might be going out. That could explain why you are getting a heavily red picture.

Doesn't projection TV's need bulb changes every now and then? I think 3 of them.
Gear: Rotel RC 1082, Rotel RSP 1068 pre/pro, Rotel RMB1077 amp, Cayin CDT 15a CD player, S301 bluray.

Speakers: Tannoy DC sensys speakers, Paradigm Servo15 Sub, Velo Spl-1500r

    Conditioner: Isotek :D

Your contrast should be at half that.

As for the red. Turn the TV off. Push down on the input button on the front of the TV for about 5 seconds, continue holding, turn the TV on with your other hand, let off the input button. You should see a few menu items on the TV, use the remote and scroll down to ISF MENU and select it. Scroll way down til you get to COLORG0=00, change it to COLORG0=01, this should get rid of nuclear reds. (I recommend that everyone with a Hitachi big screen do this)

I finally got my TV fixed. All that was wrong was the pins in the connectors for the CRT's were corroded and needed cleaned. good as new now and cost me less than $100!
