A good friend of mine is about to pull the trigger on a pair of these for his home theater,he asked me my thoughts because he is wanting something better for music than what he had.I know nothing about these,so I thought Id ask,I know he watches more movies than listens to cd's,but he isnt happy with his current speakers when he puts in a cd.I dont know what models he is looking at,but they have a bulit in powered sub,and they're $1600,I told him for that try some maggies

1600? man, I've heard def techs, and I think there nice, but they dont reach out and grab me for the price they cost, especially new retail (from the top to the bottom of the line).
for 1600 there are so many options, if he is going to go new, at least have him demo the LSi's (i just picked up the 9's, and am amazed at the quality for the price this line offers)
I think there are some higher level maggies in that price range too. (I heard Doro's, which was enough to convince me of Maggies quality).
then there are stuff I havent heard, but would if I had a 1600 budget and HAD to go new. might at least want to tell him that 1600 will go a LONG way in the used market as well.
get his ear on alot of stuff if he's got that kind of cheddar to blow. I'm sure others will chime in with ideas, its all about preference, but if your friend is going to blow 1600 on speakers, he needs to hear whats out there firstLiving Room 2 Channel -

oh, almost forgot. if he is looking for better music performance, he might really want to go 2 channel (another rig)
thats what I did when I was in the same boat. I went through the whole, "I want my theater to do everything" stage. forget it dude, whatever I swapped in and out would make movies better, but music worse (and vice versa). I finally gave up and split into 2 rigs. It was the best decision I ever made audiowise.Living Room 2 Channel -
