Not the biggest blockbuster hit...not even an American movie. This is a Korean movie that is simply fantastic.

The basic story is that a guy is held in a "prison" for 15 years and then suddenly is released. From that point on he is trying to find out why and who imprisoned him.

First, the story is just superb. It is a revenge tale taken to a whole new level. The advancement of this plot has got some small holes but they are negligiable and as every piece comes together you will be much more interested in that.

Second, the acting is done very appropriatly. You'll be seeing mostly the protagonist and he will truly make you believe that he is a very distrubed state. I also really liked the "Villian". I thought his acting was good, but once again his acting was, "appropriate". These actors and actresses play their parts in great detail. Though, you'll have your weird corny moments sometimes, but overall this is a 1% of the movie.

The direction was different and unique. Once again another piece of this movie isn't lacking.

The sound is what everyone was waiting for....well this isn't quite a movie for a sound demo. This does come with 5.1 dts and the soundtrack is pretty intriguing and ties nicely with the scenes in the movie. This isn't quite a movie for non stop action, but the soundtrack will come out and elevate the mood of many of the scenes.

Go out and rent it!

9/10 for me.

Watched this last night. Very well done, shot well, and as stated before, the acting was pretty good across the board. I am still waiting for my new H/K to arrive, so we watched it in 2.1, which sounded decent enough for what it was. The film clearly pulled some stylistic elements from the likes of Fincher, Tarantino, DePalma et al....

    It's a pretty good film.

A lot of good movies are coming out of Korea right now which is ripe for the pillaging from Hollywood. Apparently a remake has been slated for it already so for those who don't like to read subtitles -you're in luck.

Apparently though, the Bollywood film industry beat Hollywood to the punch and one-upping them- by exactly copying Oldboy and call it "Zinda" instead.

As parents, I find that the ending is disturbing. He knew that she's his daughter, but he still continued his incescant relationship.
