My old JBL DPS-10 started to just hum a few weeks ago. I've tried everything short of opening the thing up but no sound, just a hum, like there's a short in the amp.

I've been 'testing' a Polk PSW12 for the past few weeks but am not too impressed.

There's a B&W ASW 1000 for around $250 available.(8-9 of 10)

All I know about it is what I've read on the web(which seems pretty good)

It'll be used primarily for HT use.

I figured I'd get some good, honest opinions here about this sub.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Brentski

Great price on that sub. You've certainly got room to get out of it, should it not blow your skirt up.

Give it a shot in your rig.

    Cheers,

I'm not sure what you mean. Guess I don't know the Polk lingo.
    Could you please explain what you mean by;

"You've certainly got room to get out of it"

    Again,your help is appreciated

    Thanks,

You are buying it 'right', ie not paying too much. You've got 'room' ( $ ) to sell it and if not make a little money, at least recover your investment, should you not care for it's performance.

    Cheers,

This speaker is about 6 yrs old.

Is there any reason that I should shy away from getting an older speaker such as this due to the fact that something might go wrong with it?

The reason I'm concerned about this is the reason why I'm looking for a new sub to begin with.
My JBL sub (that just quit working) is about 6-7 yrs old.

I'm going to take a look and listen tomorrow. Is there anything that I might look for in an older item such as this?

    Again, any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brentski
