Polk RTi10 vs B&W DM603 S1 HELP
I am not sure what speakers to buy. I needs to define me between these frontals and surrounds, I am going to use for music 50% and films 50%. I liked to listen louder. Any idea.
Front: Polk RTi10 vs B&W DM603 S1
Surround: Polk Fxi3 vs B&W DM 602 S3
Reciver using: Denon AVR-3806
Thanks.

With a Denon 3806 for your amp, I would say choose the Polks. I truly think they are less bright and harsh than the metal dome tweetered B&Ws. The Denon amps have a bit warmer, less harsh sound, which should mate ok with the B&W's, but really make the Polks easy to listen to. Honestly, the 10's could benefit from a better amp, as could the B&W's, but I think you'd have better results all around from the Polks. On B&K power, the 10's are really something. Of course, I'm a bit biased. I hate metal dome tweeter speakers, especially for music-too bright, and am not a fan of B&W in general-way too much $$ for the resulting peformance. So, take my advice with a grain of salt!Current System:

I listened to both of them seperatly. I wish I could have had a side by side but despite this I thought that B and W's were great preformers. Better than the Rti. I'm a great polk fan but I really liked the b and w's for movies and music. I didn't really like the rti10's for music. The rti10's were being powered by a 3805. So like gregure said they might need a lil more amplification. The bad thing is that my comparison was with the b and w's on all krell seperates.
So thats not quite a fair comparison.

The DM303 that came through here a while back...
While it had next to no bass response...
No RTi Ive heard can even touch it, IMO...
Very transparent, very smooth, very musical for the price. GREAT pair of speakers. Much clearer than any RTi line Ive heard... while they dont have the bass of the RTi line, they arnt near as muddy.
IMO- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I dont know if the RTi is less bright than the BW603... afterall, everyone who has a complaint against the RTi series usually complains of its brightness. I would say, that between these two, I would prefer the BW. However, BW sound doesnt really come onto its own until you add the FST midrange driver to the mix (703 and up, not the 704).Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -

It is no secret what-so-ever that the RTi's MAIN goals overall is NOT music. And it performs like that is the case.
It is called Reference THEATER for a reason. It can do music GOOD, but its not what it does best by any margin...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
As far as brightness, the Rti line can't obviously match the tonal qualities of high end silk or ring tweeter, but my experience with the 600/700 B&W speakers was an instant reaction to how harsh and overly bright they were, even with good recordings. My ears just don't respond to metal domes of any type. I didn't even like Paradigms because of this. The B&W's I heard on Rotel separates, the Paradigms with Adcom separates. The RTi line can be too bright, but I've found with decent cables and a great amp, they've really opened up, and the brightness has been tamed quite a bit. I'd still prefer Vienna Acoutics speakers (once my Depth is paid off), but for now I'm extremely happy with the performance of my system.Current System:

Gregure,
I like Vienna too.... which were you thinking of moving up to?
Beethovens?Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -
I can't stand bright sound, and my ears are very sensitive; surprisingly my rti's sound neutral. between the h/k and separate amps added the brightness has totally been taken out of my system. Now it's a warm/neutral type sound- depending on the source.
I think they do pretty well. If not I would have auditioned/purchased other speakers like the LSI already; yet I don't feel the need to. Even for music. -
my new polkaudio rti a7 dont show any brightness at all.
i have a pair of lsi9,pair of rti6 and pair of rtia7 floorstanding.all of them are great speakers'but the lsi9s are on the top,i prefer the lsi9 and not the b&w.
with my nad c372 all the speakers sound fat and boomy.with my hk3480 the sound is more clean and polite, with my rotel ra1070 amp. it sound the best.
the lsi9 is amazing speaker,my subwoofer(polk pro500 dsw)is useless now.
for 2 ch. music the rotel ra1070 with the polk lsi9 is a great match.
the polk rti6 is a very good speaker, clean and punchy but no other speaker can beat the vifa ring rediator tweeter of the lsi9! -
