all I have for these lsi's is a yamaha 5790, what would my next step be in amplification or any ideas on what my next step should be. The yamaha is set to 6ohms but I would like to get a 4ohm setup.

does that yamaha have pre outs?
if so, seperate amplification is the way to go with the LSi's. if the yammie has preouts, then you can use it as the processor and just get seperate amps. you can go used if the budget is tight
Rotel is my personal fave for the $, but parasound, outlaw, Adcom have there followers too.
check for the reouts on the reciever, and see what your budget isLiving Room 2 Channel -

might want to chuck in a sub upgrade in your budget as well if possible.Living Room 2 Channel -

Well, the best (and most costly) option is separate amplification and a pre/pro. With a 4 ohm load, separate amps are highly recommended. Lots of options available. Start with the usual suspects -- Outlaw, Parasound, NAD, Rotel, Adcom, B&K, etc.
What is your budget?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

yesi do have preouts up to surround back or presence and the sub preout, as far as the budget, lets say around $1,000.F-lsi9

Slim, you say that "all" you have is the 5790, but you may be underestimating the quite powerful receiver that you have. One immediate suggestion would be to use the 8 ohm, not 6 ohm setting, despite what the manual suggests. When a receiver has a switch or a setting for lower ohms what that setting does is to lower the maximum voltage available at the rails in the power supply section. Because of Ohm's Law, when maximum voltage is lowered, so is current(I=E/R; current equals voltage divided by resistance or impedance)and power(P=IxV; power equals amps times volts). Although using the 6 ohm setting helps prevent overheating and shutting down, it should only be used as a last resort in the unlikely case that the receiver's protective circuits would shut it down when operated at the 8 ohm setting. The amount varies, but you'll have roughly 20% more in maximum power output available to you with the 8 ohm setting.

This is the best option for $1,000 if you want something new:
