See, I'm not the only guy who noticed this.
Please elaborate, without being (overly) gross.
MC -
Oh sure, listen to the freak talk about freaks.
~Justin -
Unfortunately it must be a generational thing..........I as well as two women here (older) understand the freakish visuals that are associated with just bringing up the name Peter North. Streams ....Gushers......LMAO:eek:
-
No wonder you don't get any girls Micah! You're having a conversation with another guy about Peter North! Isn't there anything else you guys can talk about? My stomach can't take much more of this.
~Justin -
Yeah, this is gross.
I'm feeling yechy.
Bryan, stay the hell away from me.

*cough*
El Bumpo for the Micah Cohen we all knew and were pretty creeped out about....
Also worth pointing out, the three posters in this thread were all Polk Employees. My, how things have changed.

THIS thread being deleted makes sense!I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

Is this the same Micah Cohen who now writes drivel for the New York Times website? My humble setup...
...is no more. -
The Join Date for -justin- is March 1999. That's the earliest I've seen here. Was that the origin of CP?
-
99 I believe. The forum was reworked in Jul 01, which is why a few of our 'elders' have the same join date. They were here before that, but after the change, it all defaulted to jul 01

Awesome thread. Micah was at the last BDT Polkfest, what a trip. Funny how threads like this can get people riled up nowadays but the same people feel they have the right to continue their political rants.
How many remember the old BB style forum? I was here, don't remember my SN, but recall asking the ubiquitous newbie post about biamping my RT55s with a Carver M500 and an Audiosource amp...Wristwatch--->Crisco -
The original forum was up in '97 and it was poo, comparatively. At first at least it was.
http://web.archive.org/web/19971211235322/http://www.polkaudio.com/
Micah put the revised one up in '99 and then another one came in 2001 and that's pretty much what it's on now. Also why no one but Justin and Micah go back to pre-2001 status. All the accounts got a "new" status when they migrated the old database to the new forum system.
I actually joined the forum in 1997 when I got my first set of Polk Audio EX coaxials but it was a ghost town and forgot about it for a while. (Like 5 years) When I wandered back in around October 2001, my account wasn't there anymore. So I lurked for a while then started posting in the car audio side.
Things really have changed around Polk Audio as a whole, not just Club Polk.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Also note that there was a requirement that you owned Polk Speakers to join and you had to furnish a valid serial number to verify your account.
Now that I think about it, that might have been why I wasn't participating for many years. I could not register my EX speakers again and I didn't get any new Polk Speakers for that time.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

You guys hatin' on Micah don't know. Micah was awesome and without him, this wouldn't be here. Even the venerable Al Ballard was unconvinced but Club Polk was Micah's baby. Micah got the OK to do it and from his lunatic fringe Club Polk was born to flourish and grow.
When Polk Audio put this here, no one else had done something like this. They let the lunatics into the asylum and gave them control.
Micah was the head lunatic but he was awesome. If you enjoy Club Polk, you owe everything you have here to him.
And I don't know if he's writing for the NYT. Micah is a pretty common Jewish name as is Cohen. It's not impossible that there would be more than one person with that name in a place of prominence.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Yes, I'd have to say Micah Cohen done did good.
Interesting that even Al Ballard wasn't convinced. Understandable, but interesting.
I imagine he had input from outside consulting "experts" who, with their expertise in Marketing Strategies and Strategic Market Penetration Projections, showed that the ROI on a Polk Website fell below the recommended 8.67824 % of Delineated Fractal Optimization of Quarterly Liquidity Yadda-Yadda-Psychobabble-BS.
But instead went with his guts. And instead trusted in a d00d named Micah who seemingly (didn't know him) may have had both oars in the water but had a different way of rowing.
1,867,593 posts later, looks like Mr. Ballard was right to trust this Micah fellow.
.... even though he didn't seem like he was entirely PC at times. :loneranger:Sal Palooza -
IIRC, according to Polk Legend (as passed to me from Polk Paul DiComo)....the forum was hatched in 1996. It was run under the Bulletin Board software, like Audio Asylum, until July 2001. In fact, I remember when the changeover occurred. I was at work and it was the middle of the day. Russman and I were the only ones on the board....lemme see if I can dig up THAT thread.

You guys are old.

I was told, Troy, that the forum idea was brought up and approved in '96 and it was first put out for public consumption in early '97.
If you go to the Internet Wayback machine and look up polkaudio.com: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://polkaudio.com
there was no forum or Club Polk available: http://web.archive.org/web/19970129164004/http://www2.polkaudio.com/polkhome.htm
That page stays static through June of 1997.
The December of 1997 snapshot has the forum and the ClubPolk with the original VIP logo: http://web.archive.org/web/19971211235322/http://www.polkaudio.com/
So the original forum was up some time in between June and December of 1997. Unless it was earlier and the Wayback Machine is using an out of date cached entry for earlier dates in '97. Which is possible if the crawler didn't hit the actual server and only stopped at the name server.
Basically, TL;DR, The Internet Wayback machine jives with what I was told by Justin (I think it was Justin) at the first HQ PF.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I kinda like the old Club Polk logo... cool to see Matt's picture and welcome statement as well. Times have really changed.

Okie Dokie....not all that important to me one way or the other. 96, 97......I didn't hit the scene until 1998 or 1999.
