    God speed, heroes.

I cant believe its already been 20 years.

It takes unmeasurable courage to be an astronaut especially when things were kinda new as they were in 1986.

I still remembered the moment. I was in my Sr. year in H.S. in drafting class, and the teacher had the TV on when it was reported of the accident. All the kids were pretty much dumbfounded .

I'll never forget that day. I was in the 8th grade and home sick with a stomach virus. I was watching live with my dad who was home keeping an eye on me

he was explaining to me what was going on during the start of the lift off up until the explosion. at first he didnt know what was going on, but then he did. He was just like "oh my god, I think it exploded"

I remember my day as well. I was laying out of school due to the flu and mom came in my room and told me, "the Challenger just exlpoded!"

Its weird, I cant remember anything of that day before or after but I can remember that instant like it just happened.

i remember it vividly. I was 8 years old and watching it live in the den- guess I was out sick or something. I had a bad feeling about it during the countdown and lift-off. Can't explain it really, but the whole thing just didn't look/feel right. when it launched it was like the damn thing was moving in slow motion. Too slow. Then as it was increasing in altitude it just looked like fire was going to crawl up and consume the actual shuttle cabin.. then boom. Gone.

I'll never forget that Tuesday as long as I live- and it's amazing I found these flying pics on the internet because this is exactly how I remember watching it take off.

There are two tragedies that I witnessed live via television that I will never forget. The first was the Challenger. The other was the 2nd airplane flying into the World Trade Center. I am glad that I witnessed both....BUT...I wish I had never seen either one.

If you ever get the chance to go to one of the Challenger Learning Centers with one of your children as a chaperone....DO SO! I went several years ago with both my girls and they are great educational institutions and wonderful tributes to these heros. I know they primarily are geared to school students but you can visit as an individual as they have various exhibits and public programs. Macleod....you have one right there in Chattanooga, on the UTC campus. You should check it out sometime. Here is the National Challenger Center website:

Yep, saw it live. I thought it was in 1984 but 1986 makes more sense now that I think about it.

I was eating a late breakfast and watching it on TV. I remember thinking that there were so many shuttle launches that they seemed routine. Then it happened! I ran out the back door yelling for my mom who was talking with a neighbor. She came in and we watched literally in horror as they played it over and over.

I was a GI stationed in Turkey, it was evening and I was enjoying a Drambuie when I got the news off of AFN radio - I'll never forget it.
