What type of carver are you getting rid of,,as for the rotel and parasound,I have owned both, and have never had any problems with either,if I had to pick one I'd go with rotel. :cool:JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I have been doing quite a bit of reading on pre-amps recently. It looks like the 1068 is the current one to get. (the 1098 is their flagship with a few more bells and whisles, but it seems most people who have demoed both find it hard to hear a difference between them.
Used price is around $1300 new $1700. The 1098 used is around $1700-$1800 new is $2999. There is one on closeout near me (their demo) that they are selling for $1999. Given that small price difference, I would get the 1098, but if it was over $400-$500 more, I would just go with the 1068.
They are supposed to be coming out with some new models in Oct. this year so if you like to purchase on the used market, the used price may drop after the new models come out. (that is what I am hoping for)

Cool, but make sure it's not a lateral move. Try something totally different, like tubes or a unit from a smaller niche company -- usually higher quality parts, better customer service and great prices.
I've had a Rotel 980BX and a Parasound 1203A and a Parasound HCA-1000. Parasound over Rotel, IMO, but they're both in the same league along with Outlaw and lots of others. If you'll be using your amp mainly for HT, just flip a coin. But if the amp will be used primarily for music, go for something a bit more exotic.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub
