R RTI8 for real?

I was acused of being negative when I first questioned the RTI8 speakers....Since then I own the PSW505, a must. But the thing is that I seem to get better sound quality from my Cambridge Soundworks New Ensembles then the RTI's. When I play the RTI's, with eyes closed, I can point to the speaker. With the New Ensembles, eyes closed, I don't know where the sound is coming from. What am I missing? Yes I can get more volume frome RTI8, but is that quality? Before I remove the new rti8 from the main fronts, I need feedback.
Thanks
Scott

I dont know what to tell ya. Ive spent many an hour at my local Tweeter listening to the RTi's and have never once noticed a lack of staging.
One thing to try is moving around the speakers some. Its been my experience that speaker placement has more to do with localizing speakers than most other things.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

ditch the RTi8's and go back to your Cambridge Soundworks New Ensembles, if they sound better to you. go with those. we can't see or hear your system.. so we can't tell why your New Ensembles sound better.
don't fret over it. make a decision and go with it. end of story.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Scott - what are you powering the Rti8's with? And what CD/DVD player are you using?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Early B.,
My receiver is Denon 3805, DVD is Denon 2910. By the way, thanks for all your input -

OK, you've got good components, so it's probably a placement issue as others have mentioned. Try moving them around and toeing them in slightly. Also, let them break in as mentioned.
To help you out, we'll need more information ---
What is it about the sound quality do you not like? Are they too bright? Do they have detail? Are sounds and voices very clear? Etc...
Where do you currently have them placed? Are they close to the back wall? How far apart are they? Can you provide a pic?
Maybe it's a timbre match issue. What center channel are you using?
Another thing you can do is check your crossover settings in the receiver. Have you set them to LARGE or SMALL?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Did you purchase new? From where? If so, keep the RTi8's for the full period you have before you have to return them. Spend lots of time with them to make sure your initial impression is correct. As other's have suggested try as many placement options as possible and let them break in properly. If after say 30 days (normal return policy) they still don't sound as good to YOU as your other speaks then you know you gave it your best effort and move on.

Early B.
OK, Good comment, I have done that, positioned the speakers in, out and straight.
On their own they sound fine. They sound like basic loudspeakers in a two speaker set up. When I play music they just blast towards me. When I switch to 5.1, the back speakers take over, (they happen to be ensembles as well). In the HT mode, they clear but not full. I will say, when SACD's are played, they are unbeleivable.
The speakers are about 8ft. apart with seating position 10ft. About 16" from front wall.
Crossover setting for fronts is set as small, as I am also using the PSW505. Maybe I am making too much about this, but for the investment I would have thought the system would be head and shoulders above my past system. Also, all the possitive feedback for these speakers made me beleive the same. -

That's a setup issue. Check your receiver settings again. When you play music in the two speaker setup, set the receiver to "Direct" mode. Also check your speaker settings in the receiver because your back speakers should not be taking over in 5.1. Did you use Denon's auto calibration system and/or an SPL meter to calibrate your system?HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub
