Distortion problem

Hi...I just purchased a Polk Audio Speaker System...I have a 5.1 channel S.S. Receiver (JVC6042)35 Watts. The speakers consist of 4 - 3 1/2" Satellites and the PSW650. The system is set up with speaker wires going from the out (L&R)on the back of the receiver to the (L&R) input terminals on the back of the SPW and then out to the back of the front satellites . The rear satellites are directly hooked up to the receiver. The subwoofer is set to "none" and the front satellites are set to "Large".The problem I have been having is with distortion in the front right satellite. It seems that when playing back music from the CD Player or Tape Player or DVD Player, and a certain bass frequency is detected, bass distortion occurs in the right satellite only. I have switched the speakers around, changed the wires (in case of oxidation) and have had the receiver checked out at the retailers. When I rehook everything up, the distortion still occurs. Do you think I am overlooking something? I'm ready to take the whole package back as its just 3 months old. Any input on this matter would help. Thank you Cam Woolvett

If the receiver checks out okay, then it has to be the sub amp causing distortion through its crossover. You might try hooking the speakers directly from the receiver R/L speaker outs and set them to small. This bypasses the filters in the sub.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Try looking into this thread, it is about distortions in center channel though.

This is the exact same problem I am having right now with my right channel, which is wired through the sub in the same fashion.
Just with the right, and the distortion is the same. It is a new receiver (well, refurbished, but it has been tested before it was sent out by Harman Audio).
I have a feeling we just need to stop monkeying with wiring subs like this and go into the preout on the receiver. I am yanking the massive wiring mess that is required for the polk method and pulling the cruddy old sub right off the system to see if I can get these babies (my main floors) sounding clean all by themselves.
Now, for a 2.0 stereo setup, should I set my floors to small or large? I would think large, but the cat above mentions they should be set to small....Harman Kardan AVR 630

Thanks for posting
It is the receiver, which I now need to ship back to HarmanAudio.com, apparently at my expense (they only cover shipping on exchanges, and since this was a special, this was the only unit available I guess)...
Although, I see yet another 630Z on the site in specials, so not sure about that. Still, I don't seem to have a desire to give these poeple any business now.Harman Kardan AVR 630

Mike,
Talk to them; Harman Audio has GREAT customer service; many on this forum can speak to that, including myself.
If you want you receiver fixed, they will do it at no cost for you...but if you just want to return it, you'll have to pay for shipment; that's the way it is._________________________________________________

Well, I tried to call them, and the voice mail box is full, so I couldn;t leave my information. I submitted a web form, but it was incomplete, as I didn't have some of the information they asked for, and it wasn't on the label they said it would be on.
I just want to watch a movie at my house with good sound!!!Harman Kardan AVR 630
