I was in Onecall.coms store today checking out receviers on my lunch hour.. they showed me a Boston Acoustics AVR 7100 receiver. It had a little bit of a B&K look to it with blue lights. This model retailed for $2100 but it's being discounted by them pretty soon. It was quite striking looking and big.

ANyways, anyone know or heard much about their receivers. I guess this is Bostons first venture into receivers from what i understand. I didn't have much time to listen to it.. i'll do more of that in a week or two.

Well, that's interesting. I would never have thought Boston Acoustics would get into marketing receivers. I wonder who makes them for them...

It appears possibly they are being made by Boston Acoustics themselves as they they say it has "The Boston Sound". See link to press release.

I never know if I should post a link, so if you seen the article already sorry. When people ask abot a certain product I never know how much searching they've already done on their own.

D&M holdings has aquired Boston Acoustics and rumour has it that it will discontinue the receiver lineup. That is the probable reason behind the Onecall sale.

Wow, if I read the press report correctly it looks like those are just being introduced this month and next. Hell, the R & D is already done why not keep current atleast for awhile. I guess if they already have Denon and Marantz under their umbrella maybe the Boston receivers's are redundant.

Yeah, I think the Boston receivers are just sitting on the shelves at the MSRP. Guys over at AVS are concerned that they will drop the bug upgrades for the Boston models and are wanting to download the Sherwood firmware to insure continued support. I don't have a firm word about the receiver's future, just the rumours.

They all could be speaking out their asses, you know how paranoid some get about their audio stuff. :D

well the sales guy at OneCall said that the reason that the Boston Acoustics AVR7100 was being discounted was because if you look at it... it is a step or two behind what the other brands have out on the market. ie: no DVI or HDMI connections for it retailing for about $2000.

He thought that was the reason. But who really knows... i found that receiver to look similar to three... it looks like part HK, Marantz and Denon all rolled into one. I'd consider buying one unless there isn't going to be any support for it in the very near future. But with a first or second generation product.. don't you run the risk of it being buggy?

You know, I was looking at the Boston preamp and it doesn't even have any DVI or HDMI connects either at the $2000 price point. These receivers (7100 and 7120) and preamps were introduced at CES 2005 and must have been in the first run of that line. Outlaw has since added the digital video on the 990 in the summer release. I knew that they did this trumping Sherwoods release of their P965 preamp. Outlaw wouldn't release until they could get the digital video output.

They are all top quality units, and depending on your needs for separate amps, digital video, etc. any of them would be a great choice at the right price.

I see DVI and HDMI as confusing offerings sofar since many displays can't handle the 1080P signal that can be delivered via the connection. Even the awesome Sony XSRD can't handle the top resolution yet, so until this all settles out, its kind af a crapshoot trying to predict what HD offerings will stick.

I just missed out on the Boston pre amp for $700 this AVR7100 is suppose to go for the same price on OneCall.com when they get their shipment in. But why discount a $2199 receiver down to a low $699?

THey obviously want to dump them it seems like.. makes me wonder if the new ones are about to come out OR these are lemons.

I'm having trouble finding some decent detailed specs on this unit.. like what the bandwidth is on the component video is.. and what DAC's it uses. So far i've only been able to find basic facts.
