Born 1958. Rode in cars with no seat belts.
Washed the grease from working on farm equipment off my hands with leaded gas.
    BURNED LEAVES!
I remember the first tv to come in the house-never had a color tv until I left home.
Stayed up late to watch men walk on the moon.
You could call anyone in the county USING FOUR DIGITS!
    Men swore, women didn't.
I knew the first name of everyone in my high school class.
I could cash a check at the corner gas station with no id.
My dad grew up farming with horses. Now I know how he must of felt.
Now I just amuse my sons with my general lack of typing ability.

1952 model here, and I didn't just survive, I damn well FLOURISHED AND THRIVED under those conditions.

That's why the kids today are a mess. Plus, they didn't have the Zappa's, Hendrix's and so on as role models. Shame.

    great thread.

    59 here

I remember putting wooden bases in the ground to play wiffle ball in our back yard and having a small basketball goal on our bedroom closet door because the old wooden houses had the high ceilings. and trying to build dams in the creek with the clay dirt.

    1965. Here's my filler:
Played Daniel Boone in the woods behind our house until dinner. (The neighbor had a really cool treehouse/fort made entirely from pine saplings.)
Some part of me was usually painted with mercurochrome (orange for those who don't remember).
Rode bicycles for miles and miles, jumped homemade ramps, never heard of a bicycyle helmet.
Made homemade firecrackers with Dad's reloading powder. If anybody wants to make a firecracker that sounds and feels exactly like a cannon going off .... Nevermind, different world back then.
Little league baseball and neighborhood pick up games.
BB gun at 9, hunting and fishing with Dad at 12.
Helped friends hot rod cars; Owned one ... with no seat belts.

Well,Have you ever heard of the things that Ministers/Sheriffs children pull?

My Father was the County Sheriff when I was growing up,for some reason every time I screwed up,I was made an example out of...

One instance comes to mind, when I was 14,some of mine friends and I skipped School one day and had a little party at a buddies house...Small town, word of a party spreads very fast...

After about half of the kids in our school show up...LOTS of Beer, plenty of Herb, plenty of girls, you know...

To make it short, the local Police and my Father show up late that afternoon and put a damper on our good time...My punishment was having my head shaved...bald...

Now,back in the 60's,your hair was your whole being, body and soul...He could'nt have come up with a more severe punishment, even if he beat me within an inch of my life...

This all took place on Feb.14th...After that,we always referred to that day as the Valentines Day Massacre:D

Too funny! I always had some of that orange crap on me. Winter time, I was always sick with bronchitus or ear infections. I was drinking that pink **** (penicillian in a bottle) by the gallon back then. Mom was rubbin the Vicks Vapor Rub on my chest so I could breathe. Who could forget the miracle medicine....Robitussin!

Mom's favorite saying in the winter..."Boy, you better put a hat on or you'll get deathly sick!!!"

Wasn't just gonna get sick, but DEATHLY sick. Hated a hat cause you got "Hat Hair." Would rather get deathly sick than get hat hair. :D

I'll never forget senior skip day (1984). We somehow aquired a 1/2 barrel and needed a place to party. We went to the local park (run by the park district) it didn't take long for the park police to show up to the picnic area. He wanted to know what the hell we were doing. In Illinois, at the time, alcohol even by those of age was not allowed in public parks. We explained what we were doing and he was cool about it. He said as long as no one complained he would let us have our little party. It got way out of hand, lots of streaking and passing out. Me being the dumb **** I was at the time, decided to race someone around the park grounds. He had a Z-28 Camero and I had my parents Audi. To this day I'm not sure how we not only survived, but never got caught. Racing through a wilderness park at speeds that were beyond stupid passing each other. When I think about it now I'm just glad to be alive. The stupidity of youth mixed with a bit of alcohol.

Robitussin DM - every time I had the slightest cough. To this day, I can't eat anything with artificial cherry flavor :p Great stuff though; We still use it. Kids don't like it any better than I did.
