I just signed up for this in a (most probably) futile effort to budget this hobby of mine. They sent me an email to check of when I received my DVDs -the latest date being today. Well I have not received any yet. Are they normally this slow or is it because I am new maybe?

Also.who else here has it and how do you like the service?

We have one in town, so it takes a day. I like the service, but people in my neighborhood steal the DVDs out of the mail. It's real nice, so basically I am always reporting the DVDs missing and they probably think we're stealing them all and lying. :(

I use blockbuster online. It really just depends on where you are. I would think Miami would have a center in the town for netflix and blockbuster. Both have trial periods so you can try them out for 2 weeks.

Are people going through your mail?

really big offense. Federal I think. Should try to set up a camera or something. More important stuff in mail besides dvds

This is the way to go if you watch alot of movies.

I signed up for their basic service....1 movie out at a time, for $9.99
If I'm on it, which means, get a movie and watch it the same night and put it in the mail the next day,
I get 8 movies a month, or $1.25 per movie.

Occasionally I get a damaged disc, which messes up that total, but they have been pretty good about getting another copy out even before they receive the damaged one back.
You will get the chance to see alot of movies you may have missed, or never heard of in the first place.
Newly released big hits take a while to come off the waiting list, but what's the hurry?

My wife and I tried both Netflix and Blockbuster and ended up going with Blockbuster. We pay 14.99/mo and get 3 movies at a time. What really won us over though was the fact that it includes 2 rentals a month from the store. That way if we have friends over and want to get something immediately we don't have to pay extra for it.

I use Netflix and I love it. Its been super easy to use. I have a distribution center about 75 minutes away, and it only takes two days for me to get a new DVD from the day I send my used one in. Not too bad.

Their selection is huge. My only complaint would be that they are a little thin on the new releases. Maybe people are just too slow at returning them once they have been watched. Anyways, if you need to see a DVD, a popular one at that, the day/weekend of its release, you should just buy it instead.

Also, their CS has been great. Its easy to swap plans. I had no hassles when I received a broken disc and a scratched disc and when I lost the sleeve to the DVD. So far I like them very much.

I've been doing netflix for about a year. There distibution center is on the other side of town from me, so usually I get the movies next day and they receive them next day after I mail them. I'm in the 3 movie plan and when everything is working smooth, I can get 6/week. Around the holidays, it got terribly slow though. I was lucky to get 3/week. I think Netflix has the best selection by far. I had BB for awhile, but their shipments were slow and their selection was limited, especially with foreign and indie movies. I also had the Walmart plan before Netflix bought them out.
By the way, I don't actually watch 6 movies a week, if you know what I mean.

my parents love it. It's more or less forced them to appreciate the widescreen format. Before hand they always thought widescreen cropped off the top and bottom of the picture and nothing I could say made a difference in their thinking.

2 more souls saved. On that basis alone I think Netflix is a great thing.

I am definitely spending too much money on a whole lot of crappy movies so hopefull this is the way to go. I can't believe the money that I have spent on dreck like Mr. and Mrs. Smith , Stealth, and ****. I think it will be much less painful at Netflix prices.

I've been using Blockbuster for a couple months, can't say I've had many complaints. Sometimes they ignore my queue priority and just ship something from the middle of the list, which pissses me off, but they've been fast (6 a week if I return em as soon as I get em), and if I keep new releases near the top I usually get them the day after they come out if I time my returns right :)

The two free in-store rentals are what keep me at BB instaed of Netflix.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

For those of you with Neflix, are you able acquire new DVDs as soon as they come out?

Usually, but that might be relative to location. They usually have a lot of the new ones and sometimes you're on a waiting list, and then they just skip to the next item in your queue if you want to.

All depends on what the title is and how popular it is. In general though, no.

If a movie comes out and you want to see it on DVD, add it to your Netflix queue. They generally have a selection option when things hit the theaters. I forget about movies by the time they get released, now I see an ad and just add it to the queue.

I've had great luck getting DVD's on or very near the release dates from Netflix by having them at the top of my queue in advance of the release date. If it isn't out yet, it just skips them anyway and goes down the list to the next available.

How are the condition of the discs? The big frustrating thing for me is going to the local rental place and bringing home discs that are all scratched to hell and many times either won't play or stop half way thru the movie. When I inspect the discs before I leave I get weird looks from the staff and many times it's hard to find a copy that isn't all eff'd up.
