HK recievers? Enough power?

Hi
New to the forum. I just bought rti6's for my fronts, csi3 center, and psw10 for my sub. The room is about 20x14. I am now looking at a HK receiver to power them, and am looking at the avr 335, 340 or possible the 240. I have heard how their power is different but wondering if their 50 or 55 watts per channel will be enough. Anyone have any experience? Would be greatly appreciated. Or any other suggestions in the $400-$500 price range.

I must preface my following thoughts by stating that I am not very familiar with receivers in general or Harmon Kardon's different offerings in the area, and am by no means an 'authority.'

However, you should be doing just fine with a HK receiver. I assume you're going to be using your system for HT most of the time. Do you like to listen to it real loud? If you do, a receiver may not be able to keep up with your demands. HK is a good bet, though, because the amp sections in their receivers are high-current, meaning they can keep up with most demands.

So, assuming you don't often listen at reference levels, an HK receiver should do you just fine. I would try and get one that has pre-outs so you can add an amp later on should your tastes change or your venture in audio simply lead you in that direction.

All of the receivers mentioned have pre-outs, so you would be good to go there. I recently installed a 240 with RT5's(comparable to the RTi6's) in a 20x20ish room and it fills nicely.

You will be fine with either one of those HK's. However, if you don't need any of newer features like room eq, you can probably find an avr430 or 630 at a great price. They use the same processor as the 7300.

OP here, I do listen occasionally at modestly loud levels. (HT only as loud as an 8 month old can stay asleep.) HT/Music will be about 50/50, so I appreciate the feedback. I don't think I need some of the newer equiptment(such as a room EQ) I doubt I will even need any preamps, so maybe an older model might work. And save a few bucks.
    Thanks

Thanks for your advice. I just picked up a refurbished HK AVR 435 from Harmon Audio for $398. Score! 65w sound like it will be enough to power what i have. Hopefully my wifes Dave Matthews will now sound excellent. It better or it will be my ****.

I am in sort of the same boat, minus the 8 month old. We do about 50/50 HT and music, and after much testing and listening, found it a must to go for full floorstanders as mains to cover the music properly. I am also just about to spring for an HK receiver, but can't decide between a 435 and a 670, both of which are available on HarmanAudio, currently. After all the research, we have decided HK is the way to go....

Yeah, I tried the Books out, but they weren't cutting it for music. Decided the floors were the way to go. Besides, the floors were on sale for half price, and the books would have been an additional 50$. Seemed like a no-brainer to me.

    jtoddaz,

I have the exact same system as mentioned....RTi6, CSi3,and a PSW10 powered by the HK 435. I am pleased with everything except the sub but I can't complain since it was free. I will be looking at a different sub in the near future.

You will enjoy it, just make sure you take the time to set everything up....it will pay off in the end.

Congrats on the 8 month old...I have a 11 month old.

P.S. - Hope you can protect the stereo from wondering hands :)

Have you heard the LSi's. Iv'e had the RTi line and was impressed overall, but the LSi is a quantum leap in every aspect. It is not quite perfect, but as close as 600. shipped will get. Listen to the LSi9's and even the 7's. I liked the 7's better in a few cases, but went with the 9's. You will be getting a sub to fill in your HT anyway, so you wont need the very bottom end on them. You might give them a try before relegating your floor space so quickly. You will also have more placement options since there is no large low end driver that might want to live in a different place than the high end.

yes, I agree that the setup is great, except the sub. I have turned up the gain, and it is adequate. As far as the previous post, i'm sure the lsi's are better, but if you do have a budget, the rti6's are a bargain at 289 at acoustic sound design!!
