My second favorite Stephen King story is coming to a theater near you in a few years written and directed by Frank Darabont. If he stays true to the story, doesn't get all stupid with trying to explain where they came from, why they are there AND for heavens sake....doesn't change the ending....then it will do well. Knowing the hollywood suits, they'll probably F it up! Enough of the standard "Happy Ending we beat the monsters" BS!

"I am at this very moment writing the adaptation of THE MIST," Darabont tells Fango. The novella, featured in King’s SKELETON CREW collection, concerns a group of strangers trapped inside a supermarket by a bevy of giant monsters that arrive in an unworldly fog. The story has been a favorite of fans for nearly two decades, including Darabont. "Depending on a few factors, it may well be the next movie I direct, possibly next year," he says. "Finally, my low-budget monster flick! And no, it will not be for television. There’s been some confusion out there in geek land about that."
No excuses!

I agree..just an awesome story ..If handled the right way could be killer..
it was not a real complicated plot so they could easily do this without ANY changes but for some reason Im skeptical .

It seems like a lot of the best Stephen King adaptations have been short stories or Novellas ("Stand By Me", "Shawshank Redemption"). M ost of King's stories tend to be a) way too much about psychological terror to be portrayed in film and b) way too detailed to fit into a 2 hour movie without glossing over details.

That being said, I'd love to see a bunch of other stories of his made into movies, and am really excited for this one as well.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

This really does have the potential to be a great movie, if done right. Since you guys are familiar with it, you know what made it intense was knowing they were out there, but for the bulk of the story they went unseen. Sort of like JAWS. You didn't have to see the shark for the movie to be intense. You knew it was there. Even when they were seen, it was only a small portion of them. Lots of tapping and banging on doors and windows (been a while since i last read it. time for another reading).

If it's done in the "JAWS, psychological aspect", then we score a winner. If it's the CGI monster fest angle, forget it!

    Heres to hope.

I dunno. Stephen King movies seem to be the most likely to be bastardized when turned into a movie. A shame really as he is my alltime favorite author and frankly, a genius.
