although I'am not in the market my self for a new sub just thought I'd see if any body had heard this on. I went down to our local CC and they don't carry it. I gess I'am just curious to know what a 1000w 8'' sub in a 10x10x12 inch box would sound like

Thats the first time I've heard of that & I must say thats pretty stupid. $800 for a 8" sub? I dont care if its got 1000wRMS, an 8" sub in a small sealed box can only move so much air. Im sure it would sound good in a small bedroom, but even then I would opt. for the Rocket 10".

Of Course HT is out of the question. Probably works best with music. A sealed sub in such a small enclosure needs a helluva lot of power to drive it. Could sound pretty decent if kept at a nominal volume. But at $800? You can build three of 'em for that price with a better driver, no doubt.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

SVS is introducing their "Baby" subwoofer in March or April....and it won't be an overpriced $800 unit.
I agree, there's simply no replacement for displacement when it comes to subwoofers. I'm a real fan of small footprint subwoofers, as I need one for my 2CH application...."need" as in just personal, as it's certainly not a requirement.
I've demo'd baby subs from Carver and they are great for anything above 30hz, with really high SPL....but the hardcore, earthy stuff is for the big boys.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
dorokusai, do you have any more information on the SVS "baby" subwoofer?

The minivee appears to be a repackaged version of the older spl-II series which is the upper class line right below the DD series. So it should not really be under estimated. It's meant for low distortions but with a small profile for those with space restrictions. Here are reviews of this series.

Velodyne's ratings are very... uh... large... for what they really are measured at. I won't say they don't sound good or don't look good, but don't put any money on their power measurements.Brian Knauss
