    Tour,

I think you are forgeting the business side of this, all of the online bill pays are still checks sent to the different vendors by your bank.

Myself being the president of a small business we write 300-400 checks a month.

    Lets see:

Check to albertsons for 366.45 takes me just under 20 seconds to write, date, sign the whole nine yards...

Whats the problem? The people that take forever are going to be slow at everything, including using a check card.

Experience dictates otherwise. It takes significantly longer every time I've ever seen it done. Without exception.

Not to mention, usually people rude enough to use checks at the grocery store are also the ones who don't even start writing the check until everything's done.

Also, what do you have a family of 20? 366 dollars at a grocery store??
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

We need a seperate line for those check writters. How many times at the home depot do you wait behine that check writter that doesn't even unzip the purse until they get the total. Then you need to wait for them to find the drivers license, then wait for the cashier (that hasn't used a number pad for more then 10 minutes in thier entire lives) to type in the 1001 miniture digits under that scratchy plastic. Then the next person is paying by check too!

Sure it may take 20 seconds for someone to write the check, but it's well over a minute to actually pay by one. It takes me only a second to swipe my card and sign my name.

Well this post made me start thinking so i pulled a check book out of my desk drawer, made up an amount, decided i better make it a larger amount to back up my hypothesis, looked at my watch and then started writing it out...
just under 20 seconds later i was done.

my wife goes to the grocery store about once a month and it is usually in the 250-300 dollar range, then we have the target shopingp experience, for the things that are to expensive at the grocery store (80% is BS we don't need... look honey, i found some new kitchen tools, it puts a perfect hole in the olives so you can slide them over a tooth pick.)

I write one check every three months for alarm monitoring service. Everything else I do online.

I love it. I used to hate the days not too long ago of sitting down, writing all those damn checks for the bills, preparing envelopes, putting the damn stamp on ... wait I ran out of stamps... going to the post office... buying stamps and mailing all that paperwork.
