Hi to all, new to forum.
On paper, price etc these two speaker sets seem pretty close to equal. Anyone have any opinions or have had a chance to compare them?

they are VERY similar. Wow... well the polks have the phase plug... ummm the diamonds on paper look like they get a lot louder with 2db higher sensitivity, and 75 watts more power handling. both use small neo magnets so that they don't retain heat and make installs easier. I can guaruntee the polk tweeter would dominate though. I don't know that dual tuned chamber tweeter on the d9's looks sweet too though. I would love to have either.Fiberglass reminds me of peanut brittle, only fiberglass tastes better!

out of principle, i'd vote for the SRs, because i'm pro-polk, but there's also a TON of information behind both of those speakers that most people don't see... i got to see some at polkfest, and let me tell you, the SRs look WAY better on paper than any other speaker in a price range even close to theirs... naturally, though, the only real way to tell is to listen to them both in a similar environment (e.g. the diamonds in a good in-car installation will outperform the SRs in a soundboard every time)...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

Diamonds are excellent speakers and they have a quite natural and detailed sound. However I always felt they lacked midbass and kinda had a sort of glassiness to them.
The SR's are very natural and dont color the music at all. Theyre smoothas silk, probably the smoothest speakers Ive heard. They make a great choice for heavy metal. The SR's also have better midbass and while they dont have as much punch as say a JL Audio XR, it is very smooth and blend extremely well with the sub bass.
Overall, I think the SR's are head and shoulders above the Diamonds. They have a more natural and much smoother sound with equal detail but more midbass. Actually, I go as far as to say the SR6500 is the best speaker on the market!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Since around here (Portugal) "Sound_Q" is the importer for both brands, I had the chance to experience both, in different cars.
The SR6500's were the firsts to be tested and they sound awesome. The tweeter is a little less detailed then the D9's, but also less agressive.
The mid-bass is different. You wont need subs (it's an expression) for the D9's, they play loud and go deep, very deep.
The SR's are a little more "dead", however the human voice seemed a bit more natural.
I think the difference might be on the amps (D7054 for the D9's and C400.4 for the SR's). The amps are different, and they sound different.
Bottom line: For my car (I have both pairs, D9 and SR's to choose), I don't really know. The D9's? The SR6500?.:Pedro Rosendo:.

i personally adore the SRs, so that's what i'd choose... i'd take a natural expression over a bit extra bass, because i have a sub...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

I've always been a HUGE fan of Focal. I haven't heard the Sr's but i do own the LSi home speakers and love them. I have always been a focal guy. I always wanted to run a set of 5.25" K2p's with a set of 5" subs for midbasses. That was before my car was stolen. Now I still want that but need to find a way to make it all stealth.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -

if you haven't heard the SRs, i think they hit quite hard enough to keep the bass in front... if a sub is in the system, you don't need reference-level bass in the front, you just need enough of the punchy bit to fool your ears, which they do with gusto...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

Stealth is the only way to go. I prefer those much more to the ones with all the lights and fancy fiberglass stuff.
Im also with ya on the Focals. The first time I ever heard a set was in Texas about 3 years ago. It was their entry level Acces components and they blew me away. Id been out demo'ing speakers all day at various shops and fell in love with the Focals as soon as I heard them. I just hate that theyre french.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
