I liked it. Nice story. Interesting. Entertaining. Educational. Great sound. Well written. As usual, Nick Cage is crazy as hell. Obligatory politcal messages throughout. Recommended rental.

Also, NOT an action flick, so don't go into it expecting to see a bunch of shoot'em up action.

Be aware that "Lord Of War" is not in it's OAR!

According to a discussion over at HTF, the OAR is 2.35:1 and the DVD release is 1.78:1 formated to fit WS TVs.

Is this the new P&S?!?

Edit: More info here at HTT and DVDTalk.

Did they possibly open the mattes up for the dvd release? If they did and the director authorized the change then I'm ok with it, if not, it should be shown in it's 2.35:1.

No, it isn't open matte. It's also cropped.

The first image is from the trailer, the second from the Region 1 DVD.

Interesting how the Region 1 DVD pic expanded the top and bottom of the picture, zoomed in, and cropped the sides. Have never seen that kind of mod before (well at least have never noticed that).

Watched this last night. Not at all what I expected, but pretty good. I read somewhere a comparison to Goodfellas, I think that was pretty accurate.

I just got finished watching this movie and must say I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The title makes you think it could be a plotless, kill-em-all type movie (which I enjoy watching on occasion as well). But, it is actually a good story (based on actual facts - or so they say) with pretty good acting.

As a side ote, I joined blockbuster on-line a few months back and think it is one of the best decisions I've made. Good deal and no-hassle of going to the store four times only to find that they are out of the movie every time you go.

I just cancelled my blockbuster on-line after about a year - the service was great for the first half, but all of sudden it was taken an extra day to get the movie to me and to return it, so it was becomming a hassle.

And the 2 in-store coupons you can use are great, you can use them on video games as well!

Yeah, I live in a huge metropolitan area (Dc/Balt/VA). It takes a day to return the movies and a day to get the new one. We are allowed three at a time. Had Netflix for awhile, but didn't like that service nearly as much. The in-store coupons are great because at least two times a year they give you a coupon for a free previously viewed movie (might depend on how many movies you actually rent). Selection is obviously limited but I'm a sucker for freebies.

Well this post has been dead for a bit but I just saw this movie today and have to add my thoughts. I think this is one of the better movies of 2005, it was a great entertaining movie. Ditto to all of the above.

I look through all of the Oscar nominees and think overall this was a bad year for movies. I think this will prove to be a lasting favorite now on DVD although it wasnt a huge box office hit. Great DTS ES track.

If you havent already... GO SEE IT :)
