Just got my latest Electric bill. First time I have ever had a "winter" electric bill top $100. Most Electric 'round here is Natural Gas generated, and we know where it's price has gone since Katrina.

Can't wait for summertime... Time to bring back the South Texas Nuke Plant...
More later,

Hell yeah! Bring on the nukes! If I were king Id put a nuke plant on every corner! Cheap, clean, reliable and abundant. Cant beat that!

Our electric bill hasnt really changed from last year. Although we're trying to conserve a little as in turning off lights we're not using, setting the thermostat a tad lower and stuff like that.

We just got our biggest gas bill ever for December, it was $300. I figure it would be cheaper to just carry around electric heaters.

Just had a $200 natural gas bill (in Georgia) a couple weeks ago. That was about 30% more than the same period last year even though I used about 30% LESS gas. Of course that doesn't include the $30 or so I spent on Kerosene for the space heater. Makes me look every time I walk by the thermostat.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Last month's power bill was about $23 and the gas bill was about $38. I think water/sewer was about $30. Life is good in AZ. :D (And no, I do not live in an apartment.)

Yeah, they kill us on the sewer connection. The water usage would be like $10 or less for this single guy.

We had an electric bill last year over 400, reason for that was the piece of crap furnace we had was electric heat and only one coil was burning (found that our when the tech checked it out). We have since installed a 3 ton heatpump and our latest bill was just a touch under 250, better but still not the racehorse drop that I was hoping to see.

My total utility bill-- electric, water, sewer, and trash collection-- that I just paid was $257. The one before that was $83. And I live in a 70 year old, two story, barely insulated house. That's with a heat pump keeping it about 68 degrees.

Our electric costs are way up this winter, though. My city has its own electric dept., but they purchase the actual electricity and it's subject to "cost adjustments". The base rate is $0.06/kWh, and last month the cost adjustmet was an additional $0.05/kWh.

My house is set at 68-69 from 9am to 8pm, then down to 60 overnight. It would be set only from 3-8pm but my wife now works from home. Last month's bill $107 for gas, $50 for electricity.

Natural gas is going up for two big reasons: One, new factories and power plants like natural gas because of emission requirements. Those things burn millions of BTU's every day. Second, most new homes in the US us natural gas. Between the two just watch it keep rising.

Time to go solar. They manufacture shingles that double as a panel. Cover the garage and you'll sell off enough energy back to the power companies to offset the increase in bills. Sure it may cost more up front by a couple of times, but with the rate bills are increasing, its getting to be a short term investment before payoff.

I wonder what Wes's electric bill is during the Jun-Sep time...:D

We do the level-pay-all-year-long thing: $133 for electricity, $97 for gas/water/sewer.

The elec's been creeping up since we run 2 refrigerators, 1 huge freezer, 3 computers 24/7, and we keep the inside 69-night 70/71-day in the winter 72/73 in the summer. I would keep it cooler in the winter, but da goils complain. ;)

Amps only draw alot of power is used...

    30 watts x 24 hours a day x 365 days a year / 12 months
    30x 24 = 720x 365 = 262800 watts / 12 = 21900 watts or 21.9 kw ok not a biggie but something @8.5c kwh = $1.94 plus tax a month....

    HEY!!! LISTEN UP!!!
    Got your attention? Good!
Take a few minutes and pull the front panel off your clothes dryer. Just got done doing mine, and should have done it a long time ago. You'll be amazed at how much better it works once you clean all the nasty lint out of it. Use a shop-vac and some compressed air if you have it available.

The more lint that builds up, the less air flow through the dryer...the longer it has to run to dry a load of cloths. The longer it runs, the more current it eats up....the more you pay every month. Run your shop-vac hose down the dryer vent while your at it too

Do you folks realize how many fires are started by cloths dryers every year?

Furnace & A/c filters...How many of you are changing or cleaning them every 30 days?

Got a multilevel house? Run your furnace fan anytime your home, your whole house will be the same temperature.

Add a Whole House Humidifier to your furnace and keep the humidity at 30-35%. You'll feel just as warm at 68 as you would at 70.

Setting your t-stat to 68 can save you enough on a yearly basis to buy a hand full of CD's or DVD's.

Not using your wood burning fireplace...close the damper, it's nothing more than a hole to let heat out. Don't try closing them if you've got a set of gas logs though.

Yes, turning the thermostat down at night and when your at work does save you money. How about up to 15% off your monthly gas bill.

Like those long hot showers do ya? You won't smell any better if you spend more than 5 minutes in the shower. Use a kitchen timer and train yourself.

In high school I took a trip to Costa Rica. They don't have water heaters per se, just these ELECTRIC heaters built into the shower heads. That's right - lots of volts sitting above you with water pouring through it. The worst part being you had to turn the thing on AFTER the water started flowing.

Luckily, it was Costa Rica, and I was perfectly happy to resign myself to a cold shower in teh jungle rather than being electrocuted.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
