Hi.

Ok. So, I've been slowly piecing together a modest HT over the last few years, with no idea what the final room was going to be like (in planning to buy a house, which I finally did). As it turns out, the TV room is pretty small (10'8"W x 16'L x 8'H, in a finished basement), with the viewing/listening area being only about 10'8" x 11'. We may knock out the wall between this room and its twin at some point, but that's years down the road.

My conundrum... Look at the rendering below (which took me hours to make). Being that the rears are going to be practically like wearing headphones at the sides, I wanted to go with FXi3/FXi5, figuring they wouldn't fire directly at me. Problem is, I have that open doorway on the back-right wall (about 3' wide, right up to the ceiling), which negates mounting on the rear wall and which might possibly cause a dead spot with the side-mounted FXi (if I understand them correctly).

Kind folk of Polk. I beseach thee. Will bipole/dipole still work for me, mounted on the sides? If so, FXi3 or FXi5? If not, do I concede and go with RTi 4 or RTi 6? If so, which?

This is primarily for HT.

I appreciate your benevolence.

PS - For a sub, I'm pretty much already sold on the SVS PB12-ISD (The cylinders won't fit. :D )

Intriguing question, Logik. If you take a look around the forum and maybe at Polk's speaker match tool, you'll see that you're dead on with the FXi surrounds. They fit perfectly with the speakers you have. Whether to go with the FXi3 or the FXi5 is really going to be up to you. Audition them, if you can, to see which sound better. But, with a room that size, you would probably be fine with the FXi3.

Just to comment on your front stage... It's interesting that you went with RTi70, but then the CSi5 for the center. Why not the CSi40? It's a closer timbre match, but the CSi5 should still be ok. For your situation, you probably won't even notice the difference. You could have even gotten away with the CSi30 (or CSi3, if you're buying new) for a room that size. But, you said you bought the speakers ahead of time.

As for the RTi4 / RTi6 debate, I'd say the 4, since it's such close quarters

I'm not really sure what to say about the doorway at the back. I would think it would cause a dead spot, no matter what speakers you use, but I'll leave that up to the more knowledgeable members here.

In any case, good luck and welcome to the forums!

Must be a glitch in the system. It sounds like it's coming from another person. Either that or Logik posed and answered his own question/

Sorry. 24+ hours and no one was responding, so I figured I'd take a whack at it myself. :D

Seriously, though, my real concern is that doorway. I'd planned to use the FXi3/FXi5 right along (on the sides, in dipole), but then realized I had that big, open space. I'm ready to order, but I want to make sure I'm really going to get the benefit of those speakers, before I do. I figured if there was anywhere to get an answer, this would be the place.
