I am considering the Yamaha V2600 with is a THX select 2 receiver.

Anyone know the difference betweenn THX Select, Select 2, Ultra, and Ultra 2?

The THX website does not offer anything? http://www.thx.com/mod/products/hometheater.html

Only difference they state is Select is for rooms upto 2000 cubic feet and Ultra is for rooms that are approx. 3000 cubic feet.

http://www.audioholics.com/FAQs/THXHomeTheaterSelectvsUltra2.html

My room dimersions are 15x22x8=2640 cubic feet. Sweet Spot will be approximately 10 feet from the screen.

Give that I have already invested in the LSi series, what should do?

Your room is only 330 sq. ft (15 ft x 22 ft).

I would worry less about THX certification and more about researching receiver reviews and specs. I was at Best Buy this weekend and saw a $450 Pioneer receiver that was "THX Certified", but was rated at 120 W/ch @ 1khz @ THD <.9% for the surround channels. This is definately not the receiver I would want running my home theater. Take a look at Dennon, H/K, higher end yamaha's and maybe Onkyo. I don't even know if H/K (Harmon Kardon) has a THX certified receiver, but they make a hell of a good receiver regardless. I'm not overly knowledgable about receiver quality, but I would ask questions from the people on this forum relating more to receiver performance and less about THX. I think you will end up happier.

I agree with a_mattison. Look for the best specs on the receiver. Better yet, go with seperates and dont look back.
THX is a marketing ploy created by George Lucas. Most high end audio companies do not even participate in THX. Of all the gear I had, only one was THX certified, it was the only one to break on me.

I have read the same thing about THX.
THX certified only means it is well built and george approved of it. (For a fee of course)
I believe all my equipment is as good as, or better than, what george puts his THX cert. on.

Don't focus on THX, focus on getting a receiver that has all the features you want & sounds good with pre-outs so that you can add separate amplification.

Better yet since you have already spent good money on LSI's go with separates altogether & be done with it.

Last I checked SQ footage is measured as

    Length x width x height

Not to be rude but please do not post if you can't do basic math!

HK does not offer a good 7.1 receiver. I have done lots of research.

    Cubic, cubic, what's a cubic?

    Cubics are for squares.

Abbr. sq. Expressed in units measuring area: square feet.

Abbr. c or cu. Having a volume equal to a cube whose edge is of a stated length: a cubic foot.

Length x width x height is volume or cubic ft. not sq. ft. a_mattison is right. You are wrong and rude for jumping down his throat with that comment. I think you owe him an apology. He tried to help you.

Thanks for backing me up on the square footage. My B.S. in Physics helped me with that one.

    Dr. Venomclan,
I'm in NPD and Marketing now, so $50 is about all my physics degree is worth now unless somebody wants to get into some kind of math argument. No work in Physics.

I have been in the Marketing field for many years. How much do you think my English degree is worth. If it is tied to my career, then a lot I guess.

A degree just gets you in the door to many different places, its what you do with it that counts. I know many millionaires with degrees from colleges you never heard of and do not exist anymore.
