Recomendations for a low budget dvd player

Hey guys, my old toshiba dvd player from 2001 is starting to konk out on me so Im looking to get a new one. I really dont want to have to spend more than $150 online price since if all goes well with blu-ray/hd-dvd I wont need this player more than a year & a half. I mainly just want the best picture & sound & dont really need sacd or dvd audio. I read that higher priced denon's are the shnit, but are the lower lines still better than toshiba's & samsungs?
