Couldn't agree more about the loss of album art. Cds just don't have the ability to generate the same interest in holding and reading the album and enjoying the art and photos. My kids love looking at my old albums! (And from a practical standpoint, you can't get rid of the seeds with CDs like you could with fold out albums ) -

Just thought I would throw in $.02 worth.
Madmax has a good point. Putting some of your budget into cleaning supplies is a great plan. When I got my table about 3 years ago I didn't take that into account. I spent my full budget on the table and then suffered through dirty records for a short time until I could get my VPI cleaner.
Also I would just like to add that if you do find the Project Debut price point appealing you might also like to consider the Music Hall MMF-2.1. It isn't quite a pretty as the Project tables, but it does offer an adjustable tonearm. This can be quite valuable when it comes to switching to a different cartridge.

I think Music Hall or the Project choices are pretty hard to beat in the "New" category. Just buy a new one, screw vintage TT's.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

One of the nice factors of this model t.t. is that it is not only a great table for the d.j. world, but makes for an excellent audiophile t.t. as well, the way the base is designed it is hard as hell to introduce feedback into the equation and in order to do that you better be kickin it hard, not to mention they are smooth as silk and hold speed near perfect. They are way overbuilt and can last a lifetime. Now granted they may not have the visual appeal like some of the others do but I wouldn't make that issue a deal breaker when considering a turntable purchase. Just my 2cw. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissin the belt drive design I just happen to like the dd design better.
I would second that. I still have one, and surprisingly, a new unit today costs more than what I bought it for, more than a decade ago.
The only weakness I can see of this TT is its built-in non-removable cheap stock RCA. Well, along with the "high-maintenance" nature of Vinyl...One day when the kids are married and out, I might dust-off the stack, and put them thru Nitty-GrittyI am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Sorry, I should have been clearer about that. The Technics 1200 is a great TT and will last forever. It can survive just about anything you can throw at it, and as mentioned it's got pretty good vibration isolation, etc. However, for the price, you can do a lot better and you want the cost of building the unit to going into engineering a better sound, not engineering how to keep the thing alive when someone spills a drink on it. The pioneer PL-530 (or 540?) I have absolutely kills my technics 1200 and the pro-ject was even better than the pioneer. If you're living in an apartment with some roommates, move frequently, or drink a few too many every now and then and want to scratch on some old James brown, Technics is your best choice. If you want audiophile, go with Project, Thorens, Rega, Music Hall, etc.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
