Sorry for the delay in this post. My computer crapped out. Foremost, I wanted to say thank you to Michael (McLoki) for offering his home to me to test my Jolida 1501RC. It was a great example of one Polkie helping another. This all started with my quest to upgrade my RTi 10s. More on this later.
I must say that Michaels system was impressive. I have never heard a HT with plus 500 wpc running to all five speakers and a sub. (not to mention 800 wpc with 2-channel) Michael summed up the evening with his post. ( McLoki - PRC - Opus equipment shootout (long). So I will not go into evening much. My focus was on his LSi 15s. Hearing them with Michaels Onkyo was really impressive, (I mean, Holly Crap!!, impressive) but when we hooked up Opuss Rotel, his system really took on a new life. Sorry Michael!!! I may be overstating this, but I swear I heard the last piece of glass hit the ground when a window pane broke in a scene from War of the Worlds. The 15s were clear, detailed, seemed accurate and had impressive base. The base was not muddy and really seemed to hit the lows well. I was impressed with the side mount woofer. When I left I had that WOW feeling after hearing his system and the 15s.
I have listened to B & W 604s and 703s, Canton Ergo 900 DCs, and Michaels LSis in my quest.
Here is where I may catch some flack. I bought the Cantons. It was a toss up between the 15s and the Cantons. IMO - The B & Ws (604) were a good overall speaker. The base, mids, and highs seemed balanced and fairly defined. The 704s were very detailed, but to forward, but not necessarily bright. I went with the Cantons for a few reasons. IMO - The mids are a bit more defined that the 15s, and there seems to be a bit more range in frequency response. Te sound stage seemed a fuzz deeper, but noticeably wider. Build quality is good on both, but I did prefer the solid wood finish over the gloss black. The base on the 15s is better, The Cantons have two drivers, but the 15s seem more accurate and did not seem to need any sub assistance to hit the lows. The LSis are more economical and I was reluctant to get away form Polks, but after all my analysis, I gave the edge to the Cantons.
Again, I really appreciate Michaels hospitality. I defiantly helped me to make a better educated decision.
Thanks Michael
