Distance between phono pre-amp and integrated amp

My Cambridge Audio A500 integrated amp lacks a phono section, so I will need to get a outboard phono pre-amp. I can place the phono pre-amp right next to my Technics turntable, which is about 6 to 7 feet from the amp. Will there be an issue running such a long interconnect between the integrated amp and the phono pre-amp?

    Hello Danny,
I believe it is probably best to leave the phono pre-amp as close as possible to the turntable. Most moving magnet and moving iron cartridges are series capacitance sensitive. This is why turntable have relatively short connecting cables. The connection between the phono pre-amp and your integrated amplifier can be relatively long (depending upon the output impedance of the phono stage and the input impedance of the integrated amp and the series capacitance of the connecting cable). Try and place the phono device as far away from the turntable's drive motor as possible.
    Enjoy, Ken

I would guess that having the phono pre-amp closer to the turntable is better than having it closer to amp, because of the signal level.

I am sure someone else will have a more definitive answer.

^Edit:See, someone with a better answer already :)

Thanks for the advice, Kenneth and seo.

I am thinking of spending about $100.00 for a phono pre-amp, place it relatively close to the turntable (need to connect that ground wire) and run a 3 meter interconnect to the amp.

Hmmm....may need those cable elevators ;)
