Switches on PSW10 Rear Panel

The "manual" that comes with the PSW10 is, IMHO, pretty much useless in terms of operation and hookup information (other than basic speaker wiring) or defining the controls on the rear panel. 
There are two small toggle switches on the panel that I could use some help with in terms of information on their use and setting. One is a "Phase" switch with selections for 0 degrees and 180 degrees. What does this switch do and what is its relationship to how the sub works? The other switch is simply labeled "ON", "AUTO", or "OFF".
The PSW10 has no LFE input so I think I will be using a connector from the Sub Out on my H/K AVR240 to the Line Input on the PSW10. Still a bit confused about Polk's recommendation to wire the sub using the front speaker outputs and connecting the front speakers to the sub compard to threads about using a audio cable for the Sub Out conenction. But right now I would like to know some more details about the sub itself and the panel switches.

I'll try and answer your questions.
ON,AUTO.OFF this means.. that in the ON position the amp is on all the time.. warmed up and ready to go.
Auto means that the sub is in effect "standby" mode and will turn itself ON when a signal comes down the line to it. and OFF. well, i'm sure you can figure that one out yourself.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Using the direct speaker connections as opposed to using the line input is actually the best way to go. It's simple really. Just run the R and L speaker out from the receiver to the R and L input on the Sub, then the output on the Sub to the respective connections on your R and L Front Speakers.
