Does anybody remember Polk R1's; Or, more importantly what they are? I have owned these for more then 10 years and am wondering if they will work as suitable - low cost - rears for the R15's I just bought on sale for $40. I will be using a cs350ls for a center.

The were the first entry level 'R' series speaker. The R1 and R2 were the two models, the 1 with a 5.25" inch woofer, and the 2 with a 6.5" woofer. They are also the only Polk speakers to sport a 2" cone tweeter. The R1 was the first Polk speaker I bought (2 pairs for Quadrophonic).
The matching center for the R1 and R2 was the CS101, which used a 4x6 midwoofer (borrowed from the car stereo line) and the same 2" cone tweeter.
Your center channel is not going to match your other speakers, in any way shape or form. You should build around it, as it's the 'best' of what you have.

Thanks RuSsMaN,
The reason I'm in this - center channel - predicament is I stole a pair of RT-7 fronts from the HT for my living room stereo. This is my - cheap - patched together HT for the kids and their Harry Potter movies. I also stole a velodyne VA1012 and exchanged it for a (cheap) Velodyne VX10 for my living room stereo pleasure. With a old JVC RX664 receiver driving my HT mess, I don't think the kids care about timbre matching.
I originally asked about my situation in another thread. But after listening to various HTIB setups and several satellite systems as recommended. I decided my current mess would sound as good or better then the other suggestions. I'm considering ebaying the cs350; then, running a phantom center with two more R15's in the rear. Kids play with buttons constantly; so, the object is to keep it simple.
My R1's where how I got hooked on the Polk sound. I was just wondering a bit about their history. Thank you for the education. I heard some Martin Logan's the other day and was impressed to say the least. So, the RT-7's maybe going back to Harry Potter land when I build a real stereo for the living room.
