Did they do away with it or somthing. It seems that their current line is only front radiating woofers instead of their other line with Power Ports. Maybe it didn't sell well?

It's called, "marketing." Gotta keep doing something different for the finnicky broad-based consumer market.

Anothe problem was it created port noise in subs...

So they went to the large slot port - or a slort port + power port combo...

I thougth the power port was supposed to reduce port noise?

This brings up an interesting point I have wondered about for awhile. Can a little curved cone at the port make all THAT much difference? I always found it kinda gimmick-y too but... thats why I dont design loudspeakers too :)

And a second though, has anyone ever HEARD port-noise on anything but a really poorly designed speaker? Seems to me like you shouldnt hear it on any decent speaker you buy.

I heard port noise with Onix Reference 1 ($1500), SVS 25-31PC+ ($775) to name a few...

And I thought those two were well designed and the price reflects some of that design.

While the power port reduces port noise, that is mostly from a speaker stand point.

Obviously if it worked for subs, they'd be using it a bit more than in COMBINATION* with a slot...

I always really just throught Polk used the power port so you can put their rear ported speakers right up on the wall. because with the PP it distributes the air evenly on all sides instead of straight out - so it will have the same bass response regardless of whats behind it...

I think you're right Sid... it's probably also useful for positioning.

The PP is not a gimmick and not for marketing.

Don't forget, the Power Port also increases bass by 3db and like others said, you can place them closer to the wall/corner than other speakers because the first refelction point is the power port.

Polk is not the only speaker company that do funky things to their ports to reduce port noise. A lot of companies have their own technology to combat port noise.

    Yeah, that's one way lol.

I'm not talking about sealed designs though.

If the PP was such great technology then it should be in the newer models but it's not.
