Pics are always helpful. Very hard to say what they are with your description.
"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. If they're from 1995 then it's not likely they're from the original Monitor line. I think the original monitors were only produced up 'til around '91 or so...

There was a smaller satellite-type speaker that may have gotten the monitor name stuck on it at one time or another... maybe that's what you have? To tell for sure, though, pics would be needed...
    Ludicrous gibs!

Still don't know. Looks like a pair from a package deal or something like that. Looking at the very thin cabinet and marginal speaker terminals, leads me to believe these are low budget and were probably never sold seperately. Perhaps part of a HTIB.

I've never seen a pair of "stand alone" Polks with this "inferior" build quality. Not trying to slam the speaks just pointing out my observations.

    FWIW

The terminals are not the best but the cabinet walls are not as thin as you think. The rear panel is recessed making the side walls look thin. If you knock on the speaker anywhere it has a very solid sound, not hollow. I did a quick frequency test on them and they are fairly flat with a low end of about 60hz. If these are cheap then I would like to find some more of these. I have the original boxes and paperwork for them and they are the same as other Polk speakers of that time. Other than the terminals and being sealed enclosures they match any other Polk speaker in quality, sound and finish. Like I said before, if I needed a small speaker these would get my consideration.

There were pictures and a question about a small pair of sealed speakers on here. Don't know where all that went. Like you said, wtf.

Well, there's that WTF, but my WTF was wondering why you're answering a post that's darn near a year old.

Not meaning to give you a hard time, just wondering.

Ok, if you pull out the driver, on the back you will see a MWxxxx model number. I suspect yours will say either MW5505 or MW6502. That will ID what model speaker you have.

Thanks for the replies. Have never seen another pair of these and they aren't on Polk's site. Wish I had bought another pair when I had the chance.

So, did you remove the driver to confirm which model you have?

MW7001 is the number. Now that I have seen the insides I can tell they aren't close to top of the line. Solid enclosure, minimal crossover and no stuffing or anything inside. Looks like I could do a little DIY work on this without spending very much, something to play with during the winter. For a cheap speaker Polk still does quality work and not bad sound. Thanks to F1nut for getting me to admit they are cheap, had to look inside them to see that.

In that case, you have the Monitor. That's it, that's the only name. I was quessing that by the size of the speaker in relation to that plastic knife in your pic that you had the Mini Monitor or the M4 Series 2.

Have you listened to any other Polk speakers?

I have a pair of S10's. Not the big ones, the ones from about the same time as the Monitors. I have the S10's and the others set up in the second bedroom, it's not my main setup. Wish I had a pair of the really good old ones.

Don't want to listen to demo's, might want to start changing everything again. I'm still having withdrawal pains from not constantly changing what I have. Just changed a pair of speakers from passive crossover to active and need to enjoy them without thinking of changes. Yes, it is fun to work on speakers but it can be an expensive hobby.
