Hello all, I'm new to this forum and what a wealth of info this place is. I've always been to car forums like corvetteforum.com and jeepforum.com but I never knew that there was a community for home theaters. This is going to be a great experience.

Okay here goes. I picked up my system 3 years ago, a pair of RT1000i for mains, R10s for surround and a CS175 (please don't laugh) for my center. and my TV which is a 54in Sony 4:3 screen. I have a Yamaha HTR-5490 which I believe is a 100watt peak*6 reciever. I've always known that my center wasn't exactly the best in the world and I was never WOWED so it's time to upgrade. I plan on moving the Cs175 to the rear center channel that hasn't been used and I think I have my mind set on the CSi5. I've done searches and read my reviews on and off this forum already and obviously the results are that they get a thumbs up. Know I don't know what the word timbre means but I guess it's has to do with matching up with the other sounds of the speakers. Will this center channel match well with what I got? Do I have enough juice to power this beast?

Oh yeah, one more question.. where would be the best place to buy it. So far I got a quote of $279 plus $25 shipping from acousticsounddesign.com. Is that a good deal?

As for matching it probably wont be PERFECT, but it is a very nice center, plus still in the RT line.

As far as acousticsounddesign goes, that was the best deal I could find for a new CSi5 as well and purchased from them. They had really fast shipping and have no complaints, my center is in perfect condition. Just no serial # for the warranty but that goes for any online deal.

Just found this in the other thread from another member...

Just received an email from Eric Wong at Polk, where I inquired why they chose the CS2 as the best center match for my RT400. He replied:

"Hi, yes the CS2 is the best match up for the RT400's. Another choice would be the CSi5. The thing is the RT400's were a fairly unique sounding speaker on their own, so the best choice really falls between the CS2 and the CSi5.

So I guess that goes for most of the RT line.

I would buy the CS400i that Gonzo is selling in the Flea Market for $200. Perfect match, cost effective, as it is the largest center from that exact line.

Timbre matching is when all of your speaker have the same sonic characteristics, ie same drivers, esp. tweeters. This is important, especially if front, and will keep the sound consistent across the soundstage.

    Doesn't get any better.

Oh no.. u got me all confused now.. now I'm going to be doing research all day on the CS400i.... LOL. It's all good... I do want everything to match well. I guess the CSi5 matches better with the newer stuff then.

Oh great, throw another model into the mix...LOL :p So I guess that the reason why it's a choice between the cs400i and the cs1000p is the fact that my RT1000i's are Dynamic Balance® Tri-laminate dome tweeters and these two centers use the same tweeter. I'm getting pretty good at this guessing/Sherlock Holmes games. ;):D

Message I just got back from Kim Jasper at Polk tech dept.

    Vincent,
The best match would be the CS400i. The problem is locating this
speaker. It has been discontinued for over 3 years now and is no longer
available through us. This center channel speaker uses the same driver
and tweeter that is used in the RT1000i. Option #2 would be to use the
CSi5. The drivers and tweeter are different but is voiced very similar
    to the RTi series speakers.

    Thanks,
    Kim
