Need Help Matching RT3000p mains
Hi,
I'm a newbie to this forum (just signed up today) and found it doing research on my Polk RT3000p front speakers. I didn't realize they were so popular or valuable! I really enjoy listening to them.
To make a long story short, I'm in the process of hanging a plasma over my fireplace for my HT. The arrangement requires me to move to a smaller center speaker (currently have a DCM that is about 8" high and deep). I'm going to have to mount it BELOW the mantle. (not sure this is the best place, but we don't light the fire very often and I still have about a foot clearance above the fireplace opening, hope this is enough!)
I'd like to find a center speaker to match my current Polk mains, but as small as possible, preferably around 6" high and deep (length is not a problem).
Any suggestions?

Go with one on each side of the fireplace or t.v. to avoid having a speaker right above the fireplace opening.
You could put bookshelf speakers on small shelves at whatever height you want.
Possibly RT55's
I would not want my center speaker or t.v. above the fireplace opening because of the possibility of smoke damage.Skynut

Thanks Skynut. Are you suggesting I use 2 center speakers?
I was trying to avoid having to describe the layout but I'll give it a shot. The fireplace is in the center of the wall and about 5 feet wide. I have 4 feet built-ins on the left and right. I currently have the RT3000p speakers at the very left and right walls of the room, on top of the built-ins (height about 3 1/2 feet). Each built-in has a window above it, right where the counter top is.
I do have a mantle above the fireplace, I have seen many people hang a plasma like this. Of course they usually have their center speaker on top of the mantle and this is still an option for me. My only reason for thinking below would be better was to keep the height of the plasma down. It looks like the center of the plasma will currently be about 65" off the ground, so I don't want to go much higher.
Thanks again. -
Yes 2 speakers.
What I have done in the past is I ran the center pre/out into a splitter and then into another amp.
Then that amp ran my RT55's on each side of the set.
I liked it but some people think it is overkill.
I do not know which single center will go good with your mains and still fit on the mantle.Skynut
