I'm looking at a Denon dvd-2800 i can get for $198 that has the Silicon Image, or a new lower-line denon dvd-910 with Faraduja for $105.
Which is the better deal?

Depends on what you watch. Typically speaking, Sil is better for film (ie Matrix) and Faroudja is better for video (ie Toy Story).

Yes I watch film DVD's. I never watch stuff like Toy Story so i guess that favors the 2800.
Is it wise to invest the extra $90 then for an older model (possible bugs?) yet higher end player? I'm looking for great red-book performance, and no layer pauses between DVD layers. (My sony changer sucks at both).
PolkThug thanks for the e-cost link and your help. -
Faroudja and Silicon Images are both top notch processors.
Are you basing you're opinion on a review and/or a graph? As in DVD Benchmark?
I respect DVD Bench, but realize that not everone will "SEE" these anomalies unless they are compelled to look for it. They run the most comprehensive tests on video that I am aware of, but I have yet to notice a single issue with my current gear....of which, actually fails a couple tests.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

yes. I'm doing some quick research online before I purchase. It comes down to the older but higher end model dvd-2800 (mark1) for $198 or the newer, lower line dvd-910 for $105. Mark which do you think is a better buy?
i don't know what a chroma bug is- but online it says the 2800 model has it and the newer, 910 model doesn't. -
Honcho, it comes down to your pocket and from the looks of it, it's a given. I would buy that which makes you feel better.
I know what Chroma Bug is, and I haven't killed myself...yet.
If video is high end for you, go low....if audio is high end for you, go high.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
