Help, surround sound not working!

Alright, I just bought the RM6900's, which I'm trying to hook up to my old receiver. Its a Technics SA-DX940, and it has all of the inputs needed to setup a 5.1 surround system. Looking at the Polk manual, I decided to try the Polk suggested subwoofer setup. I wired from my receiver to the speaker inputs on the sub, then from the sub to the two front speakers. Before I hooked up the rear sats, I wanted to see if my progress was working out so far. Maybe this is the problem, I wasn't sure if you needed everything hooked up before the surround would work. I highly doubt thats the case, but if it is then this is a simple solution. When I set my receiver to surround sound mode, I get absolutely no output. When I switch it to analog stereo, I do get sound from the front speakers, but obviously no sub or center channel. I'm hoping its just caused by not having the rear sats hooked up. Please help!

Are you using the digital input as your audio source? If so, make sure your tape monitor loop is disabled (if you receiver has one). On my old Pioneer, turning on tape monitor would disable digital audio entirely.
