My first year in photography

This month marks my first full year doing photography. I'm using a Nikon D70 6.1mp digital SLR. The first several months were quite a learning experience just to figure out how to get good stuff out of the camera. Then I had to learn how to use it in a studio setting with continuous lighting, then how to use it with studio strobes with reflectors and such. Tons of trial and error.
This is what I did yesterday in the studio. Needs a little work on some minor lighting issues, but I'm happy overall. My subject is hot, but what a piece of work! Just trying to get the right poses and look out of her was a major job. Notice one eye is a bit open more than the other. Finally had to take what i could get.
By the way, post processed in Photoshop CS2.
What ya think kids?
John

You're right, she is hot. I think you are doing great - I'm a landscape guy myself but you've done very well - no appreciable hot spots, black where it should be black, all that good stuff that everyone thinks is easy but is really a PITA to balance. Are you using NEF (RAW)?

Only the photographer knows for sure. I am waiting for the delivery of my Canon 300D DSLR. Should be a fun learing experience as this is my first digital camera, coming from a Canon EOS3000.Michael

looks like there is too much shadow on the left side of her face other than that it looks good. I prefer outdoor shooting as well and black/whites. Good luck in your venture and make sure you have a good contract with your models.Matthew

Great job, John! Sandy says the eyes are fine and that is probably her natural look from that angle.

Those Big Brown eyes are beautiful

Thanks guys!
I shoot RAW all the time. JPG sucks!
I would say whats below the crop line, but I'll let you gents imagine a little.
BlueMD, now that I look at it, the angle probably is playing some tricks with the eyes.
Lighting was and still is the toughest thing to get right. I actually like that little bit of shadow on her cheek. I feel it gives a little depth to the photo.
I also use Nikon Capture to edit sometimes. Has a great Black & White conversion tool. B&W is my favorite! So classy! No excuses! -
Where is the rest of that picture?
