I am putting together a setup around a 15' by 15' room and would like to know if I am heading in the right direction. With the amount my wife will let me spend this is what I am looking to purchase. Cs1 for my center, R30's for my fronts, r15's for the rear, and PSW12 or 10 for the sub. I am really into this Harman Kardon AVR140 for my receiver and want to know if this will be strong enough to run these speakers without an additional amp. This receiver runs 45 watts continous to all channels and retail's for $500. There most expensive receiver only pumps 85 watts and retails for $3500. I think that this should do the trick but would like some info for some more seasoned experts. Thanx.

Here is some advice I would give to someone like yourself just starting out.

    1) Buy a receiver that has preamp outs. That way, if and when this hobby becomes your addiction, you can add on a more powerful amplifier later.
    2) Buy used equipment. Speakers and electronics included. Most people in this hobby generally take very good care of their stuff, so buying used is often a great way to go. You can save a ton of money doing this.
    3) Wait for sales. Pretty much everything you are about to buy will be on a great sale at some time. Your patience will be handsomely rewarded.

It does sound like you have a very nice entry level system started their. Mine is fairly similar. Many people around here will tell you that Polk does not make the best subwoofers. A SVS PB-10 would be great for your room, although it may be a little out of your price range. Others may suggest you move out of the R series of speakers and save your money until you can swing the new monitor series or the RTi series. They are much, much better and relatively, not that much more expensive.

my first polk setup was the r series except I had the r50's. It was great and you really couldnt beat the price. I upgraded because I heard the RTi series and had some xtra cash which is dangerous. The HK should definitely be able to drive them no problem but honestly I would get a used or eBay HK to get a better receiver for less. Check out harmanaudio.com too for refurb stuff with warranties. I myself am lookin to get a HK ASAP.

I second the above motion, if you can swing it go for the monitors but if not then oh well. My R series served me well for a few years. And as for subs, dont go polk, go SVS or velodyne. Ju st make sure you get what you want and dont end up getting something only to want to upgrade right away, do the research and search for good deals. Hope you are happy with everything once you get it all :)
